Yuvraj Singh's Journey To 300 ODIs

Four Indian cricketers have played in excess of 300 one-day internationals. On Thursday at Edgbaston, Yuvraj Singh will become the fifth when defending champions India face Bangladesh in the second semi-final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Its been a memorable journey for Yuvraj, who in 299 ODIs has produced many memorable performances. Here are some of his best.

84 off 80 balls v Australia, Nairobi, 2000
In his first innings - he made his debut four days earlier but didn't get - Yuvraj dazzled with 84 off 80 balls against Australia in the 2000 ICC KnockOut Tournament in Nairobi. After being put in to bat, India found themselves in a spot of both with Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid departing in seven overs. Then walked in Yuvraj, all of 18 years old, and with a stunning series of strokes he grabbed the Australian attack by the scruff of its neck. Forty-eight of his 84 runs in that innings came in boundaries, while the rest were the result of lightning quick running between the wickets. Thanks to his punchy innings, India made a wining 265/9 in their 50 overs. In the field, Yuvraj first took a good catch to send back Ian Harvey for 25 and then got the most vital wicket of the Aussie innings, running out their most consistent ODI batsman, Michael Bevan, for 42.

50* off 53 balls v Pakistan, Centurion, 2003
This match will forever be attached to the sheer genius of Tendulkar, and rightly so, for the pinnacle of the master's amazing World Cup run was Centurion, in the cauldron of an India v Pakistan match. But as brilliant as Tendulkar's 75-ball 98 was, when he was dismissed by Shoaib Akhtar's snorter and a fine diving catch at gully, India were still 97 runs short of victory. That Pakistan were not allowed to barge into the middle order after taking out Tendulkar owed chiefly to Yuvraj and Dravid, who put on an unbeaten 99 to finish a famous win. While Dravid dropped anchor, Yuvraj highlighted the steeliness he brought to the XI with a priceless 50 not out featuring delectable drives through the offside. The shot that raised his fifty and left India with four runs to get, off the first ball of the 46th over bowled by Waqar Younis, still rings loud.

57* off 65 balls v Australia, Ahmedabad, 2011
In a World Cup quarter-final with many types of ebb and flow, Yuvraj and Suresh Raina provided the pivotal coil as India knocked out the world champions and set up the mother of all semi-finals in Mohali. Chasing 261 after Ricky Ponting's 30th ODI century earlier in the day, a jittery India struggled to build big partnerships against a pumped-up Australia, but as the pressure mounted, the home side had their answer in Yuvraj and Raina. Having taken two wickets in the afternoon to take his tournament tally to 11, Yuvraj was in the thick of things with the bat, controlling the chase with a cool unbeaten 67. The defining partnership of the match was between him and Raina - they kept their wits about them and the 74 they added bailed India out of a jam and put them in charge. Australia failed to qualify for the final four of a World Cup for the first time in 19 years.

150 off 128 balls v England, Cuttack, 2017
In his second innings on comeback, Yuvraj led the way in reviving India's innings from the loss of three wickets inside the first five overs. He walked to crease in the fifth over after Chris Woakes bowled Shikhar Dhawan as his third wicket, and set about with a fluid recovery act. He hit his ninth ball faced for four, a trademark whip off the hips that flew over square leg, and three deliveries later pulled out the short-arm pull for another boundary. That Jake Ball over ended with a third four, as Yuvraj flicked with elegance and placement.
