What Is Peer Pressure, Huh? Discuss

How do you stand apart from the crowd so that people look up to you? This can happen if you stand apart! Such people develop high self esteem, yet they are not arrogant. They stand out by creating their own space and by demonstrating that they are not followers but leaders in every respect, says Virender Kapoor

Why some people are different and respected by others?

1 They don’t bother about what others have. This is because they do not attach too much importance to materialistic things and don’t get impressed by those who have it. For instance, such people are not at all impressed with what kind of phone you carry or what brand of shirt you wear. Don’t get it wrong, they wear good clothes and also carry a phone, but not bought to show off. They look confident and smart in whatever they wear.

2 They don’t worry about what others say. No one can show them down easily. They carry themselves with a sense of élan and grace.

3 They make their own opinions and judgments, yet respect others. They are opinion makers and not opinion seekers. Such people have learnt to say no when required.

4 They are happy and contented with what they have and are aware of their own and parent’s limitations in terms of what they can afford and what they can’t.

5 They believe in real peer pressure and not a skewed one. They compete to win on their own. If you are good in physics I will beat you in math. If you beat me in football I will take you on in swimming. That is the spirit they have- a winning instinct.

6 They are self assured because they are more knowledgeable and this reflects in their confidence.

Look at all time greats and become like them

God has created us all equal. Then why some rise to pinnacles of success despite their humble back ground and some don’t? The reason is simple; they don’t get cowed down by those who have more than them. They make their own space and use their positives to move forward. They don’t hang on to the crutch of their parents or a legacy. They are self made. They make their own style statement by what they do.  Albert Einstein always walked to the office and had a simple way of living. He had half a dozen identical grey suits so that he didn’t have to waste time in selecting one!

What Should We Do

  • Make your own opinions, and don’t measure everything with money. Remember, if a shirt worth `5000 can make you feel inferior or superior, then your worth is only `5000.
  • Be smart, become intelligent look intelligent and become worthy of it.
  • Instead of carrying an expensive phone, carry a nice novel or books and make it your style statement!
  • Wear your smartness on your face and your persona and not on the basis of what you wear or what gift your father gave.
  • Create your own fashion, as new fashions come and go.
  • Create space for yourself and don’t be a part of the herd.

Remember a dialogue of Amitabh Bachchan “the line begins from where I stand...” apply this to your everyday life.

Nice advice Virender Sir.Would Definitely love to follow this.I agree with all you points. This world has become a extremely fashioned and competitive world. My friends usually respect people on the way they dress.I am completely against this.Whenever a person wears something other than what the present trend or fashion is they keep them away at a distance.I am against this tradition.According to me,A person should be judged only by their knowledge.

Wow! So nice article. I always like to share my own opinions but at times I don''t feel comfortable. I end up agreeing with the other person which doesn''t give me happinesses. But from now I''ll make attempts to be a real me which gives me pleasure.

Being yourself is the most important thing in life. Peers may influence you in a good or a bad way, but we must learn to choose and discriminate the influence. Also, being confident about yourself in the you attire is a way in which we can remain ourself
