TOIStudents Give Awards To Dipa, Sakshi & Sindhu

To honour the achievements of Dipa Karmakar and Lalita Babar, cricketer Virender Sehwag came up with an off-beat suggestion during this week. The ace cricketer requested PM Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to name a plane or train named after the two sportswomen, who made India proud! Sehwag defended his suggestion by saying that these women are literally unstoppable; hence a speed train or a plane should be named after these two great sportswomen.

We asked TOI Students what they thought of this idea. Here is what they said!

It's a hilarious idea. Very absurd. But his explanation is kinda sweet. It will be worthwhile to name a jetliner named Dipa! Go for it Viru, I say.

- Swastik Patnaik, class X, Mother's International School

It is funny. Lol! But I wish him all the best in getting his request sanctioned. Will be good to travel by a rajdhani called Dipa Express!

- Ananya Mishra, class IX, Vishwa Public School, Pune

And how would TOI students award talent?

The achievements of sportswomen like PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik and Dipa Karmakar at the Olympics is indeed great. They have made India proud on the international platform. Naming schools, trains or airlines after them is an ideal way of rewarding their effort and hard work. They truly deserve it.

We can felicitate these great athletes by opening such schools of sports named after them. The government should launch such projects to increase the involvement of teens into sports.

I am proud of PV SINDHU getting a silver medal for INDIA . it would be very apt to name a school or stadium in the name of Sindhu. a badminton coaching class would also be better.

Naming the street where the athletes spent their childhood will be a very good move and a proud movements or them. Also, the school in which they studied can be named after them

It would be great if government could introduce a scholarship for sports to honour the achievements of Dipa Karmakar , Sakshi Malik, and P V Sindhu. This will help to encourage the students and motivates sports in our country .
