This Republic Day Had Many Firsts.

In a heartwarming gesture, around 250 divyangs (physically challenged), along with top scorers from IITs and IIMs have been invited to grace the Republic Day parade on Jan26. Gopal Ramdhanush, one of the privileged few from Delhi, is elated. “ I didn’t know how to react,” he said, adding that “it is a matter of pride for me”. Ramdhanush was paralysed from the waist below after he met with an accident when he was 10.
The PM has also invited 100 top scorers from the country’s premier institutes IITs, IIMs, central universities and schools to witness the Republic Day parade at Rajpath. These invitees will sit next to the VVIP box — in front of the saluting dais at Rajpath.

Other Firsts at Republic Day

1 Crown Prince of UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will be the chief guest at the parade celebrations.

2 Although India has turned down United Arab Emirates’ request to display its para-dropping skills at the Rajpath as part of the Republic Day parade citing security reasons, they have made arrangements to accommodate a marching contingent from the UAE.

3 LCA Tejas to make its debut
Indigenous Light Combat Aircraft - Tejas will make its debut in the fly past. “We are proud that after a gap of 50 years, the nation is going to see an indigenous fighter aircraft in the fly past,” said Air Commodore Rajiv Ranjan, principal dir, air defence & weapons system.
