Should Sports Be A Mainstream Subject?

Batting for sports to be included in school curriculum, Sports Minister Vijay Goel said that to impart the desired importance to sports, it should be made a compulsory subject at the school level. Goel said marks should be also given to students for their involvement in sports activities. Addressing the 64th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) , Goel said, this is also essential to deal with the growing incidence of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases among children. The Minister said that for realising the full potential of sports, it is essential that we take effective steps to promote it in educational institutions without any further delay. Goel emphasised that every educational institution should have access to a playfield and basic sports facilities. Such institutions which do not have these facilities should tie up with neighbouring institutions. He said physical education teachers should be engaged by every school. Standard guidelines should be framed and issued for admission under sports quota, relaxation to sportspersons from attendance and appearance in examinations.

Yes, including sports as a mainstream subject would be an excellent idea. It would be of great aid to the children involved in sports as well as will contribute in making better sports personalities for the future.

Thakur Aastha REUBS

Yes, ofcourse it''s a great idea. Many students are interested in sports but due to insufficent facility they don''t have a chance to move ahead. And many students will be prepared from india to represent in different games and olympics.

Neha Deshkar MONTFORT

Yes, there is a need to add Sports as a mainstream Subject. I like to play cricket but i can''t due to my academics. If sports is indulged as a subject so children like me can be able to continue their sports and can also focus on their academics. Due to academics we are moving away from sports, if it is included we will be mentally and physically well. So I support this idea.

JogamNithya GITANJALI DEVASHALA, BALAMRAI

Including sports as a subject in mainstream is an excellent idea. This will not only increase our knowledge in sports but also help us in scoring good in a sports quiz. And also many students will show great interest to study this subject.

Anusha Dhar RUKMINI DEVI PUB. SCHOOL(PITAMPURA)

It is really important to refresh the body in order to clean the mind I think that this initiative would do wonders for students. on top of that it would also keep our nation''s youth in good health and keep them fit which is always a plus point.

Haya Naved FATHER AGNEL SCHOOL(GAUTAM NAGAR)

I think this a phenomenal idea to include sports as a mainstream subject. Not everyone is excellent at studies and the competition is really high. The students who are good at sports will benefit a lot from this.

Soujanya Mukhopadhyay St. George's School, Alaknanda

Absolutely not. Yes, exercise is an important part to maintain adolescents'' health, but Sports like any other sort of art, is talent based. Moving it from a co-curricular to a mainstream subject would ensure that the majority of students who simply lack the instincts to know when to catch a ball or how to run fast, have their overall percentage run low no matter how hard they try at it.

Sreyasree R Joshi PRESIDENCY SCHOOL (SOUTH)

Yes,its an amazing idea.As sports also play an important role in our busy lives. We get up,get ready,go to school, come back play inactive games, study for 2 hours or more, have dinner and sleep. The above idea of including sports in our timetable, will make us active and keep us fit.

Adi Gupta Billabong High International School

yes I think that it should be required. That way students can get the 1 hour of physical activity they need a day. That is the bear minimum people really need more than that. Physical activity is also proven to help the brain function better. So when your kid is done with physical education he can focus a little better.

Janya sarwal PRESENTATION CONVENT(RED FORT)

Sports is very interesting and enthusiastic and should be a mainstream subject as participation in co curricular athletic activities promotes socialisation, the development of leadership skills , focus and of course physical fitness...

Khushi Srivastava DPS MARUTI KUNJ GURGAON

Yes, there are many student who wants to be in sports after school also and sports as a mainstream subject will help them to have more advantages in their future life.

Indrajith.S Green city international school

Yeah, sports should also be a mainstream subject mainly for the high school students to improve their physical and mental fitness to be mentally present in the class to listen the lessons

Bhavana Jaison Atomic Energy Central School No 2

Sports can be at least a graded subject.

Hansika bhardwaj PRESENTATION CONVENT(RED FORT)

Yes ,sports should be a mainstream Subject as education is not every thing one should be physically , mentally and socially fit and fine! As it is an important factor in a person''s health

Vandana Subash City International School Wanowrie

I don''t think i should be made as a subject in ALL the schools because not everyone is good in sports or would want to take up a career in sports..So different sports schools can be made for such students..

Hafsa Malwat F D SCHOOL

Yes ,It will be good take. Many students can perform well in sports but they can''t do so. As some force them to study and if they study they can''t perform well in sports and of they perform well in sports they can''t study.

Ritvik Baweja Bal Bharati Public School

Definitely including sports in the compulsory category of school will definitely help the children to have a taste of recreational activities alongside studies. Even though many children today are delved towards studies and neglect sports. It is necessary for these children to play some sports.
