Kohli Credits Sri Lanka For Chasing Down 322

Virat Kohli said he expected his bowlers to defend 321 but admitted that Sri Lanka batted exceptionally well to take the game away from the Men in Blue in the Champions Trophy. "We felt we had enough on the board, we trusted out bowlers, but Sri Lanka were pretty good," Kohli said at the post-match presentation on Thursday. "They kept the momentum through the innings, they picked their areas to hit and executed really well.

"There's always hindsight. I thought we bowled decently. But when you don't execute properly, there is always food for thought. Here you have to give credit to the other team," Kohli added.

Sri Lanka chased down the stiff target in 48.4 overs to register an unexpected win.

Angelo Mathews, who scored an unbeaten 52 in his comeback game, rated the win as one of top victories of his times. "It's one of the top wins, to beat India. It was a fantastic wicket," said Mathews.

"The bowlers did brilliantly to restrict India to 321. It's a very chaseable target. I tried to hit as many balls in the nets as possible, it makes you feel good and that helped me come back from injury.

"Wasn't easy for Danushka Gunathilaka to walk into the side and bat like how he did. Kusal Mendis is a great player, and Kusal Perera also batted really well. "Those partnerships were crucial. It's a must-win game (Sri Lanka against Pakistan, and India versus South Africa) for all of us in the group. Not many people expected us to win and that took a lot of pressure off us," he added.

It is really a sad movement

Yes, I did watch the match. Earlier in the day, India powered to a total of 321 on the back of a superb ton from Shikhar Dhawan and a couple of fifties from Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, but that didn''t prove to be enough as the Islanders chased it down, rather too comfortably towards the end. Two missed run outs and three ped catches, that is probably what proved to be India''s undoing. I hope that the Men in blue will cut down the mustard in the next match with South Africa!

A great match! The bowlers weren''t able to take wickets. Kohli himself was forced to ball. India set up a really good target, but in the end it is Sri Lanka who ended up on the winning side. A great effort from both the teams.

I watched the match and felt that in middle overs (20-35) hardik was not bowling correctly. That''s why to finish his overs Kohli and Jadav bowled. And Kohli did a great bowling. Also, almost after 10 years sri lanka has chased such a great score.

Yes, I had watched the match. I think that India should work on their bowling and fielding. They should try and bring Ashwin back because he is a key bowler for the Indian team.

It was a clinical performance from the Sri Lankan team who were able to chase down the massive total of 322. Though the Indian batsmen were at their best with a smashing century from Shikhar Dhawan and half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, it was the bowling department that disappointed us to the hilt. Such was the situation that Kedar Jadhav and Virat Kohli had to show their skills with the white ball. R Ashwin should be in place of one fast bowler. Best of Luck!

What happened with the bowling and fielding department that day? Looks like we have become too overconfident especially after defeating Pakistan - if that''s so then it''s wrong! Ashwin should come back... although it''s disappointing but still I believe that failure is the condiment to success and we will surely win the upcoming matches. Best of luck!
