How To Be Your Own Superhero

You cannot let safety take a back seat at any point in time — be it at school or at home. Also, you should be armed with your own set of ‘safety guidelines’ and ‘strategies’. This can happen only when you adopt safer attitudes and behaviour. Kumar Saurav shows you how to take charge and be aware...

Don’t talk to strangers

You can never be sure about the intention of a stranger — who he is, what his motives are, what is he up to, so it’s better that you just avoid them. Also, don’t judge a stranger by his/her looks because even people with a ‘sugar-coated’approach can have a hidden motive. Never take gifts from people you do not know or hitch rides with them. Also, remember that just because you ‘recognise’ someone doesn’t mean they are your friends, well-wishers or can be trusted. There is a difference between people you call friends and people you are just familiar with.

Talk to your parents

Parents, at times, are hard to deal with but you can be rest assured that they want your good. They will stand by you, no matter what. That’s a trust that you must have.  Share as much as you can with your parents. If someone is stalking you while you are coming back from school or someone is bullying you, ensure that your parents know of it. You have the right to tell them everything, and they deserve to know everything.

Be aware of surroundings, while taking school bus

If you have opted for school transport, ensure that your driver is driving safely. If he drives rashly, ensure that the responsible authorities are informed. Also, ensure that no one in the bus is bullying anyone or the driver or the conductor is not giving lifts to people who should not be boarding the bus. If you are a senior, ensure safety of the little ones in the bus are met.

Don’t share your personal info

Why would someone need your phone number, personal address, passwords or information on what your parents do? Don’t give out such information to any one!

If you Spot, report

If you see some fault in school infrastructure, report it! If you see spot cracks in walls, stray dogs on the premises, a tree too weak to hold itself to the ground, open compound doors or a manhole which is open, report it to the administration. Infrastructural discrepancies can lead to fatal accidents. More important, no matter what, any event of assault, bullying, victimisation, theft, fights or any other form of violence should not go unreported.

Hmm...I agree that we shouldn''t give out personal information recklessly...not even in some social media or anything...it might directly or indirectly make us vulnerable to danger. In today''s world, no one should be silly enough to think they know someone entirely.
