Does Your Weight Decide Your Fate? Discuss

Last week popular Indian commedianne Bharti Singh made news when she was roped in by a body lotin brand for their TVC (commercial for TV). The advertisement managed to garner a lot of eyeballs due to än odd model for the said brand". Singh, in the advertisment, addresses all those who were taken with surprise saying that beauty is much more than having a size zero figure and shapely features. It is not the first time that advertisers have tried to break the stereotype of beautiful through a powerful message.

Rohit Mishra who has worked with many advertising agencies says while the thought is good, the outcome will not be as expected. Ït takes a lot of courage to break away from tradition but does that reap benefits for the brand? Only time will tell. But based on many studies, we can safely conclude that beauty is still considered equivalent to sharp features, white skin and a size zero figure," says Mishra.

Bharti Singh Says She Has Faced A Lot Of Flak For Her Unconventional Looks

Yes. I have been turned down by producers and filmmakers only because I look the way I look. I am not ashamed about my size and shape, but I think they were. It was very difficult for me to make a career in an industry which has a set standard for beauty and glamour. I am still struggling to make a mark in Bollywood. Small screen is more welcoming to newbies, freshers and unconventional actors who want to make a career in thie field. Not just me, actors with unconventional looks but great talent are shown the door in a regular basis.

I was shocked when I was offered this commercial but I wanted to send a message across. It is not a battle won, but a start has been made.

Youth Reporters Say Beauty Sterotypes Still Exist In Glamour Industry

We will be lying if we said that beauty doesn't lie in a person's skin colour or sharp features. As a society, we haven't moved on from these set "beauty"standards. It will take more than just an advertsiment to change that mindset.

Arnab Puri, class XI, Bal Bharati School

Like many other stereotypes, even this is here to stay. Such a thing exists at the grassroot level too. We are faced with such disparities in school itself. And this problem becomes manifold when someone wants to work in the glamour field.

Shilpi Jain, class VIII, Delhi Public School

I feel the society is more welcome to unconventional looks now. The situation is much better than what it used to be a few years ago. This change in stereotype won't happen over night. It requires a concerted effort and a few daring individuals like Bharti Singh to stand up and voice their feelings.

It depends upon you that how you handle the situations and how YOU think about yourself. A person being overweight if works in a film industry he/she should not be affected by the tantrums of public or relatives, such people should be judged only on the basis of their "talent".

Nishi Upadhyay BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Your weight does not matter all that matters is your attitude. If you have got the talent no one would care how you look because your talent would grab everyone''s attention.

DIWANSHI SHETIJA BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

No,not at all when talent is at its peak then weight, height are just some digits. No matter how you look or how you turn up to the society''s wants, the matter is all about the inner beauty hacks and about your calibers inbuilt.

ADEEN ASHFAQUE WAGLE MARY IMMACULATE GIRLS SCH-S CRUZ(E)

Beauty is defined by your character not your size. Talent, intelligence, kindness should not be ignored while judging a person. Starring Bharti was a small step for man but a huge leap for mankind.

While slim and pretty models are more attractive to people, over-weight models can also attract in a different way. People always look and comment about over-weight people, and that can perhaps give thr products the desired importance while advertising. Weight cannot and should not be a criteria on which talent is judged.

MANAS KUMAR BAL BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (PITAM PUR

A person''s look does not decide everything. Its his behavior, attitude, and mind which reveals the true beauty. I think such a stereotype should be broken and hence I stand with this add which is a stereotype breaker. What matters is inner beauty.

No I don''t think so.. It''s not the weight of the person who decides the carrier but how he takes it. It depends on how he accepts it. Hope is what we need to do something and not glamour..A person should have the ability and tale

Beauty lies in one''s character, intelligence and talent , not with zero size or A4 size .

Kashish Verma Bharti Public School Swasthya Vihar

No, weight is not at all an element which decides fate because talent is important for anything and its not important for a person to be beautiful to become model. All you need is passion to do it.

Structure and weight are not a matter of consideration actually. But people consider it as big issue

E. Deepak Sen Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Weight doesn''t matter a lot. In the storm of life overweight is just a passing cloud ,so doesn''t have a drastic effect on one''s character.

Haya Naved FATHER AGNEL SCHOOL(GAUTAM NAGAR)

I think weight is not something which decides how good you are at something, it is the talent and potential you have within yourselves. And yes we can have overweight models since models exhibit the clothes not their figures. It is important to eliminate this stereotype.

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

No, there is a lot of scope for overweight models in the world of glamour. Look, there are many situations where such a model can act better than a slim-trim one. And, how can we forget that "appearances are deceptive". And, Bharti Singh is so talented that appearance is truly deceptive as far as she is concerned.

your physical structure doesn''t depend on your capability or talent. person should be judged on the basis of his/her confidence, talent, attitude e.t.c. whether person is fat, thin, dark e.t.c, everyone is best!!

Attitude and talent depends on one''s success. Height and weight have little or no significance.

Vihan R. Yalamanchili DDMS P.OBUL REDDY PUBLIC SCHOOL

One''s attitude and talent matters more than their height or weight. Being overweight does not mean that one is not handsome or beautiful. But overweight celebs in the film industry do get commented upon a lot for their weight by many viewers.
