Do You Want Your Canteen To Go Cashless?

CBSE wants school canteen and tuck shops to go cashless, do you think it's a good move? Should digital payments be introduced in schools right now? Or should it be kept for later? Would you want to go cashless in school? Do you feel safe with digital payments? Suggest ways in which your school can go cashless. Register to post your comments

NEW DELHI: After making payment of school fees and teachers' salary cashless, CBSE has advised schools to inculcate habit of cashless transaction among students by introducing smart cards in canteens and tuck-shops. The schools have also been asked to use activity weeks to push digital payment and task each student to promote the same at home and among at least 10 outsiders.

On December 7, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) convened a meeting of 350 nodal schools and deliberated on how to make the schools completely cashless. Three days later, it issued a circular on staff payment through bank transfer and payment of fees only through "non-cash" mode.
The meeting also discussed the issue of inspiring students to go cashless. "The schools are now being asked to sensitise students on cashless transaction and how to keep it safe. However, it's an advisory," said a senior CBSE official. "Students' involvement will make promoting cashless transaction easier."

The board is going to allow e-wallets like SBI Buddy and Paytm for its competitive exams. It will also do away with the challan mode of payment for affiliation from January when the new cycle starts. All payments will be accepted through debit/credit cards or net banking.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, too, has decided to train students from Class IX onwards and teachers on various cashless modes of payment and use services of Scouts and Guides to educate various sections of society. A circular regarding this financial literacy drive has already been sent to its regional offices. Experts from local banks/financial institutions and postgraduate teachers in computers, commerce and economics will hold these sessions.

yes , I support cashless transactions in canteen . Paytm should be introduced and children should be allowed to bring mobiles in school.

Not everyone''s parents will support carrying mobiles to school. But, yes for India to become a cashless economy it is a perfect step as children will be trained for this at an early age. I would support to either have debit cards or canteen could simply have a record and at the end of the month maybe parent''s could send money to the school''s account.

I am sorry for " it should be school''s, everyone''s and parents. typing errors.

I am again sorry there is some problem with ''.

Digital payments and e-wallets always prove to be an easier and effecient way for transactions. Bringing facilities like paytm to school canteens and tuck shops is of course a good idea is it will not only reduce the hustle bustle of using paper money but also pave way towards a cashless economy. This move should be implemented as soon as possible

Cashless canteens will reduce risks of students losing cash. However, it will also deprive students of the ''opportunity'' to learn to handle money carefully.

I think it is not a good move because if this would become a rule, children would surely get their own account card and add the cash howmuch ever they want, they might use the small amount of rupee and then use the rest for their own things like buying a pen in a near by shop etc. So I don''t mean all the students but most.So my opinion is not to make school or collage canteens go cashless.

yes i am supporting the topic that canteens should go cashless we could have a in school bank where we can deposit money and by using our id cards (barcode) can be scanned and make a payment

Its a good attempt to make India go cashless as well it will help younger generation to learn about such ways. Its an good idea to promote cashless mode of payment in school canteens and tuck shops, as it will make parents aware about the scenario of their children in canteens and obviously make move our country forward. according to me not only canteen payment should go cashless but other ways such as stationary, clothing shops should also go cashless.

saumya QUEEN VALLEY''S SEC-8 DWARKA

By this way our country will move forward and bring a great revolution bby the changing spheres of time. As well as it will definately reduce the corruption in our country which is their up to a great extent. Its an outstanding move and I surely support it.

yes. I support this but it is not necessary that all parents would allow their children to carry phone to school even schools may not allow but i support it there should be a online service ....

Aditi Sahi D C MODEL SCH PKL-SEC-7

Though I support the idea but there would be many problems for implementation part as in most schools we are not allowed to bring phones and credit or debit card may be misused etc.I think for now it is far fetched idea

Why not!Carrying cash to school has always been a task,at least for me.Saving it from friends'' eyes, handling all the notes, calculating the return amount and obviously seeking change for upper denomination notes!Phew! All that hassle could be entirely terminated if our school canteens went cashless.Besides not all kids would probably know how to use credit/debit cards and this would call for a great deal of economic education, finally cbse is planning to teach us some pragmatic skill !

Robin Gautam NEW GREEN FIELD SCHOOL(KALKAJI_ALAK

No, bringing mobile to school may cause some indiscipline and a unhealthy environment that as a student I should not speak. Children bringing phones to school what can they do if one''s phine is stolen he/she will steal other ones and they damage the school environment. Children take selfie in class durring periods this will lead a poor result and also playing games an school wifi.

Bhavesh HAPPY MODEL SCHOOL(JANAKPURI)

No, it is not a good move that cashless transactions in the school canteens as well as in tuck shops. But most of them can use the cashless transactions. If the canteen will take cashless transactions, then the student have their own account with money. But students of class1 to 8 will not use properly cashless transactions. Only students of class 9 to 12 can use cashless transactions. So I think that it is not a good idea.
