Compulsory Class X Board Exams From 2018

CBSE Body recommends making Board exams for Class X mandatory

New Delhi: Board exams for Class X are set to become compulsory for all CBSE students from 2018 as CBSE's Governing body today "unanimously approved" a proposal in this regard.

At the meeting of the Governing body, its members agreed that from the academic session 2017-18, compulsory Board exams should be introduced for all students of Class X, sources told PTI here.

The decision will now have to be approved by the government before it is implemented.

Currently, it is optional for CBSE students to choose either the Board exam or a school-based examination.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has in the past favoured making Board exam compulsory for CBSE students as is the practice in all state boards.

The sources said while there is a view that for the Class X Board exams, 80 percent weightage will be given to the marks scored in examinations while 20 percent weightage will be given to school-based evaluation.

In another key decision, the CBSE has decided to recommend to the HRD ministry that the three language formula, under which Hindi, English and modern Indian language are taught, should be extended to class IX and X as well from the current VI to VIII, a source said.

Oficials added that the Board also favoured sending a recommendation to the Centre that those languages which are listed in schedule VIII of the Constitution should be taught under the 'Three language formula' while languages which are "purely foreign" should be taught as a "fourth language as an elective subject."

In the past the HRD ministry run Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) used to offer German as a third language, but the practice was later discontinued.

The final call on these decisions will be taken by the government, a senior official said. PTI

Board exams are better than those SAs and FAs as there are unbiased checking of answer scripts that is teachers can no more abduct students for attending private tuitions.

Board examinations are absolutely perfect. What I don''t like about the CCE pattern is the projects we get. I think everyone is not so good at making attractive projects. This is what I find annoying. Boards are good. There''d be unbiased checking. One thing that troubles me about boards is the ''entire syllabus'', but otherwise it is better.

I think that the Boards shoudl not be made compulsory because there are people who are exceptional in other fields, and studies is a hindrance in their passion. Making it compulsory put stress on people who do not take up academics as a career. However, they shoudl have a valid explanation for not wanting to appear for the boards.

Board exam is a good initiative. It help children to know their real potential .

I am in favour of this move. Children will then be boosted with confidence when they''ll face XII board as it will be there second appearance for board, the first being in X. Also, it will give way to appropriate marking as per the CBSE guidelines.

I think that board exams are the way to our life because board exams tells us the mistakes which can be by us in our career so board exams helps us to learn from our mistakes and that should be repeated. For board exams we should prepare a timetable that can be used and maintained by us. By making a schedule we can achieve our goals which we have made and we should only made schedule which is suitable for us to do.

I think India should adopt 3 languages system i.e. CBSE''S three language formula as.nowadays many countries also have Sanskrit teaching schools and colleges like Australia , Canada , France , Indonesia , Italy, Sweden , Thailand and USA so why not India whose ancient language was Sanskrit it will be helpful for us and not a burden . it will help us to enhance our knowledge .I candidly think that we should adopt 3 language formula

TAVISHA ARORA dav public school

well i think board exams i 10 Th will be helpful as it will build a base for 12 Th boards. Boards are better than the SA''S as checking done in boards is not unbiased they check equally . if it will disturb the 10 Th class''s result ,it will improve the result in class 12 Th definitely . it is a right move for our improvement in class 12

Mehek Sayyed Padua High School , Mankhurd

I think taking back this rule will make our teen''s life.Giving 10th-Board exam will help student''s to be confidence in 12th as they will know (paper pattern)and they will be prepare for thier exam''s well.
