World’s second largest army right after China celebrates its Army Day today and it is a proud moment for each and every man, woman and child living in the safe haven of Indian territory. Celebrating probably the most selfless and brave profession in the world, we salute the dedication and grit of our brave men and women today. Here are some of the little known facts about Indian army which will raise your hair till the end.

1. Such was the valour of Gurkha rifles that Adolf Hitler wanted a platoon for himself. He thought he could conquer the whole Europe if he had Gurkha’s by his side.

 

 

2. World’s highest bridge, Bailey Bridge is in India and it has been built by our brave men. Located between the Dras River and Suru River in the Ladakh Valley it is 30 metres (98 ft) long and is at an altitude of 5,602 metres (18,379 ft) above the mean sea level. It was built in 1982.

 

 

3. Indian army controls the Siachen glacier which is the highest battle fields in the world which is at about 5000 meters above sea level.

 

 

4.  Indian  army has one of the most state-of–the-art military training centres in the world. Our High Altitude Warfare School is visited by USA, UK and Russian to learn from the best.

 

 

5.  The Indian Army is one of the biggest troop contributors to the United Nations peace making operations.
