Who Do You Think Will Best Replace Dhoni?
India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni (R) and captain Virat Kohli react during the third One Day International match between India and England at the Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium in Kolkata on January 22, 2017.

His shoes are not easy to fill! Not just as a captain, but also a batsman, wicket keeper and even occasional bowler. Still, the gap has to be filled

As he slowly but surely walks into the sunset, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is making sure that unlike the first part of his career, his last few steps are well-rehearsed and well-timed.  Dhoni will never lead India on a cricket field is hard to fathom, for, irrespective of whether he was donning Test match 'whites' or limited-overs 'blues', Dhoni was, and will always, remain a warrior. The fearlessness with which he approached battles made him a natural leader. It was only after three years that Dhoni was entrusted with the job of leading a bunch of 'T20 rookies' in the World Cup's shortest version in 2007, but Dhoni was already a leader of the emerging group of players in the dressing room by then. We bring you men who can take up his place, in the coming days.

1. Rishabh Pant

Is as effective behind the stumps as he is in front of them. Loves to score big and quickly. Pant had termed Dhoni as his role model. Like Dhoni, whose periods of struggle as a railway ticket checker in Kharagpur have been well-documented, Pant too has had his share of ups and downs.

2. Ishan Kishan

Aggressive with the bat and has had a great Ranji season which certainly puts him in contention for a spot. Only recently, Kishan had led India to an emphatic series win in the tri-nation U-19 tournament, also involving Sri Lanka and England, in Sri Lanka.

3. Sanju Samson

His IPL exploits prove he is a big hitter. As Dhoni has shown, having a keeper who is a quick scorer can do wonders for your team. When Sanju made his international debut against Zimbabwe in 2015 in a T20I, he was part of a weakened team as most of the seniors were resting. He'll hope to improve his position this time around.

4. Parthiv Patel

On the comeback trail, the man is in good form with both bat and glove. The management may take advantage of this and keep him handy. Age may not be on his side, but he certainly has the experience. Patel's delightful strokeplay has been praised by one and all along with his haul of 13 dismissals with the big glove in India's 4-0 series triumph over England.

5. Lokesh Rahul
Of his batting, there is no doubt and while he has not kept at international level on a regular basis, the man could be utilised in the shorter versions. Rahul has finally come off age and with time on his side should go on and have a great career for India.

I think that rishab panth will best replace for team India because panth had done a great job in england ODI series. If he plays more and gain more experience then team India can do more better in his captaincy.

Well, I feel that no one can replace Dhoni. Every player is unique in his own way and so is Dhoni. Dhoni as a captain is just perfect. His calmness and sensibility on the pitch makes him apt for the title "Captain".

I think the perfect man to replace him is none of these.Dhoni is an amazing captain.Even virat can''t replace him.I recently saw the three odi''s and in one of them kohli asked Dhoni should they go for a review he said no need but virat went over for a review and wasted it.This Incident itself proves why Dhoni can''t be replaced by anyone.

Ayushi Pandey LILAVATI BAI PODAR (A)-SCRUZ

VIRAT KOHLI of course. The two share a great rapport and Virat will be able to reiterate the glorious wins of the past.

Some comments above say that Dhoni is irreplaceable. I beg to differ. Thinking in a practical notion, there has to be someone to step into his shoes and gloves. Dhoni has created so many records and it''s time that emerging youngsters strive to break it because everybody deserves that opportunity to create an impact.
