RCB, Gujarat Lions Under Pressure

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions are nearing desperation point in terms of staying alive in IPL 2017. A solitary point following Tuesday's washout has shifted last season's runners-up RCB off the bottom spot and up to fifth on the points table, in the process dropping Gujarat to eighth. Suresh Raina's beleaguered team have an additional game to play, and beating RCB in Bangalore on Thursday can help them gain ground on the IPL leaderboard as the middle stage of the tournament nears.

RCB's last win came against Gujarat on April 18, but since then they've not been lucky. On April 23 they were bowled out for 49 by Kolkata Knight Riders, the lowest total in IPL history, and on April 25 rain in Bangalore washed out their eighth match. Virat Kohli was livid following the abject capitulation against KKR, and RCB truly do need him, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle to fire collectively to try and keep the franchise in the reckoning for the IPL play-offs.

The home team did not reveal a playing XI for the wash-out against SRH on Tuesday but after 49 all out, batting changes can be expected. Mandeep Singh, with an average of 10.83 after six innings, looks likeliest to be cut from the batting order. Sachin Baby or Vishnu Vinod are the candidates to fill in. Stuart Binny also has poor numbers, and could be replaced by Harpreet Singh.

Probable XI: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Virat Kohli (capt), 3 AB de Villiers, 4 Kedar Jadhav (wk), 5 Sachin Baby/Vishnu Vinod, 6 Stuart Binny/Harpreet Singh, 7 Pawan Negi, 8 Yuzvendra Chahal, 9 Adam Milne/Tymal Mills, 10 Samuel Badree, 11 S Aravind

GL
The arrival of Irfan Pathan as a replacement for Dwayne Bravo gives the team a handy all-round option, and it could be that he is used against RCB. The 32-year-old brings to the squad the value of 102 IPL games, in which he has 80 wickets and 1137 runs at a strike-rate of 120.57 which could prove handy down the order. Should Irfan play, it would likely be at the expense of benching Akshdeep Nath who was out first ball against Kings XI Punjab.

Probable XI: 1 Brendon McCullum, 2 Aaron Finch, 3 Suresh Raina (capt), 4 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 5 Dwayne Smith, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 Akshdeep Nath/Irfan Pathan, 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Basil Thampi, 10 Shubham Agarwal, 11 Nathu Singh

RCB have got the best men of the sport. Unfortunately, they aren''t using them to the fullest. RCB this season is not up to mark. My sixth sense says that RCB won''t make it to the playoffs. On the other hand, Gujarat Lions are struggling but they are at least better than RCB. May the best team win!

I hope RCB give a tough fight to the Gujarat Lions. RCB have the best batting line up. Players like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, Kedar Jadhav and AB De Villiers can shower the stadium with their sixes and can create amazing records. Bowlers like Yuzvendra Chahal, Pawan Negi and Samuel Badree can perform exceptionally well with their ball. The Gujarat Lions also have a strong batting and bowling line up. ALL THE BEST, ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE.
