MI Pulls Off Sensational Chase

Nitish Rana scored a belligerent half-century as Mumbai Indians overhauled Kolkata Knight Riders's target of 179 in the final over. From 130/5 in 17 overs, Rana and Hardik Pandya produced a wide array of shots to pull off a stunning chase. We break down the match in five passages of play that determined the outcome.

KKR lose steam after power-packed opening stand
The way Kolkata Knight Riders began, it was as if they had continued from where they'd left off against Gujarat Lions the other night. Skipper Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn raced KKR to 44/0 in four overs. Mumbai Indians bowled a few yorkers through Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah but that did nothing to help contain runs. That Bumrah gave away two free hits in his very first over didn't help either, to which Gambhir capitalised and sent one for four. Lynn on the other hand, pulled one past Bumrah at short-fine leg off McClenaghan and tonked Malinga for a six and a four, who leaked 20 in his first two.

Magnificent Pandey takes it to Mumbai bowlers
Manish Pandey, who had batted wonderfully in the company of Suryakumar Yadav to put 44 runs for the fourth wicket, reached his ninth IPL fifty, and as the innings progressed, unleashed a fury on the Mumbai Indians bowlers. KKR looked nervous when Krunal Pandya picked up two top-order wickets in one over and followed it with the wicket of Yusuf Pathan later, but Pandey did amazingly well to take KKR from 107/4 at the end of 14 overs to 178/7 in the end. Pandey made 35 off his first 30 balls today; the next 46 coming off 17, getting KKR 71 runs in the last six overs.

Mumbai Indians openers begin positively
Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler began the proceedings well and scored at a healthy rate. Parthiv set the ball rolling with a crisp square drive off Trent Boult and Buttler followed it with a flick towards the mid wicket fence. He experienced a slice of luck when an edge off Chris Woakes went unnoticed by the wicketkeeper, bowler and the umpire. Unfazed, Parthiv took Boult for a four in the next over before Buttler paddle swept Woakes for a six over deep fine leg.

Mumbai Indians'' win was spectacular. Nitish Rana''s 50 was just out of the world. Hardik Pandya''s score was truly phenomenal. Kieron Pollard saved many boundaries of important KKR players. Unfortunately, Rohit Sharma got out on a low score. The best moment of the match was when Krunal Pandya was bowling and Hardik Pandya, his brother caught some of his balls. In short, THE MUMBAI INDIANS played exceptionally well. Well Done!! Keep it up!!

Whoa! Mumbai Indians are back to winning days. They thrived under pressure to seal the match. Budding player Rana''s half century was a contributing factor in the run chase. The finisher Hardik Pandya played some good cricketing shots. His brother Krunal Pandya''s bowling was noteworthy. Manish Pandey was KKR''s sole pillar in the first innings where he scored 81 runs. The match had to be a thriller. After all the venue was the great Wankhede Stadium!
