Over the last 2 years or so, Virat Kohli has turned into one of the fittest cricketers. But one must remember it did not happen overnight. “Kohli once told me, if I don’t set the benchmark as captain, who else will? Even as the world looks on in wonder, I know the boy behind the man. He used to gorge on butter chicken, rolls and all sorts of fast food. But today, it finds no place in his diet,"  childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma said while speaking to CricketNext.



His coach remembered when butter chicken and mutton rolls used to be Kohli's favourite. But now things have changed. “In fact, he is so particular about his diet, that even when he comes over to my place, he won’t have packaged juices. You either give him fresh fruit juice or you don’t. Carbs are a strict no-no and there are no binge days in his routine anymore,” he revealed.

He channged his diet plan
After realising what he wanted to achieve, Kohli changed everything including his diet and training. He began spending more time in the gym, went off glutten, off wheat, avoided cold drinks and even desserts. But, the next big challenge Kohli faced was to adhere to the strict regime that eventually made all the difference.

"For the first two months I felt I wanted to eat the bed sheet when I went to sleep because I was so hungry. I was craving taste. I was craving delicious food. But then I saw the results. I felt quick around the field. I would wake up in morning and feel like I had energy," Kohli said.

"From 2015, I changed my training again. I started lifting, snatching, cleaning and dead lifting. It was unbelievable. I saw the result. I remember running after a ball in a Test series in Sri Lanka and I felt more power in my legs. It was, like, 'wow'. This training is addictive. The last year-and-a-half it has taken my game to another level," he explained.

From a man who considered himself chubby and overweight not really long ago, Kohli has surely come a long way to set new standards in Indian cricket.
