Bumrah Helps MI Beat GL

A see-saw game if ever there was one, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions played out a thoroughly entertaining game in Rajkot. In the end, both teams were tied at 153, and the match went into the Super Over. Mumbai Indians scored 11 in their super over, and defended the same thanks to a superb over from Jasprit Bumrah, who gave away just five to give Mumbai Indians an important win. With the defeat, Gujarat Lions' chances of progressing are left hanging on a thread.

The Super Over
Jasprit Bumrah! If you need a master class on how to bowl a super over under immense pressure, 23-year-old Bumrah showed just how. Needing to defend 11 in six balls, Bumrah started with a no-ball, but followed that up with six top drawer deliveries to give Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum very little chance of scoring. Only five runs came off the final over, one in which he mixed the most accurate yorkers with perfectly delivered slower deliveries, and helped Mumbai to a win, that almost looked lost. Earlier, Kieron Pollard slammed a four and six in the super over, bowled by James Faulkner, to help Mumbai Indians score 11 runs. Faulkner hit back with wickets of Pollard and Jos Buttler off consecutive deliveries to end Mumbai's turn at the super over.

How did it come to a Super Over?
Thanks to two insane overs - the 19th and 20th of the second innings. 15 were needed off 12 balls and Mumbai Indians still had five wickets in hand. But Gujarat Lions turned the match on its head. Basil Thampi delivered the penultimate over, and it was the perfect over on many counts. He had Hardik Pandya out caught in the deep off the very first delivery, before trapping Harbhajan Singh LBW. Off the final ball of the over, Mitchell McCleneghan was run out after getting a single. Just four runs came off that over and three wickets fell, leaving Mumbai Indians, with two wickets in hand, needing 11 off the final over.

Where did things go wrong for GL?
First, with the toss. Suresh Raina won the toss and elected to bat first. Everything from there on went against his side. Ishan Kishan batted superbly at the top of the order, but the rest of the top five failed to turn up. Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, Aaron Finch and Dinesh Karthik all scored in single digits as Gujarat Lions found themselves staring at an embarrassingly low score at 56/4. Even from there, they would've hoped for a revival. That wasn't to be however as Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja and Irfan Pathan all departed to leave them reeling at 101/7. It took some solid lower order batting from Andrew Tye and and James Faulkner to lift the side past the 150-run mark.
