Teriya Magar Emerges As The Winner

After 26 long weeks of pure dancing, and mesmerizing audiences and judges with many innovative themes, it was mid-season entrant and wildcard contestant, Teriya Magar proved that no dance style is too complicated. Teriya Magar (13) who attends St Lawrence School in Vashi, was declared winner of the 9th season of the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhlajaa. She speaks about her achievements and what it means to her.

The child prodigy emerged as the winner of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa after battling 18 other aspirants, Teriya Magar reached many unprecedented highs through unadulterated entertainment.

While Teriya and Aryan Patra walked away with prize money of Rs.30 lakhs and the sought-after Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa trophy, Salman Yusuff Khan along with his choreo-partner Aishwarya Radhakrishnan and Shantanu Maheshwari along with Alisha Singh emerged as the first and second runner-ups respectively. The winner announcement was held at the Bigg Boss sets in Lonavala, where Teriya Magar was presented the Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa trophy by host Salman Khan.

Q This is your second title after Dance India Dance which you won in 2014. How does it make you feel?
I am on the top of the world! I entered this season as a wild card contestant, was ousted once but my destiny had something else in store for me. I had to win this title, it seems. On a serious note, I have toiled very hard to win this trophy.

Q Tell us more about your training for this show...
I use to practise for 14-15 hours before every week's performance. This included pure dance routines as well as exercise for better balancing. I used to dedicate two days in a week to specialise in lifts.

Q You were scared of attempting dangerous lifts before?
Yes. I was not used to that kind of balance. In Jhalak Dikhlajaa, I learnt to take proper stance after a stunt. That is very essential for any dance form.

Q Any other tips that you would like to share with budding dancers?
Practise hard, focus and don't be afraid to fail - that is the surest way to success. A great mentor can shape up your dreams too. A lot depends on your luck, so don't forget to pray hard.

Q Do you have a favourite genre?
I loved ballet and contemporary before entering this show, but now I think I am in love with hip hop!

Q Your plans ahead?
I am going to concentrate on my studies for now. Will keep pursuing dance as that is my first love. And leave the rest to God, I don't mind taking up roles in Bollywood or TV if the script is exciting.

Q What will you do with your prize money (she won Rs 30 lakh)
I will donate some amount towards the Teriya foundation in Nepal for educating the poor. I also want to do something for safety of girls. The rest my mother knows what to do with it.

Q Your mother is your greatest teacher...
She has sacrificed a lot for me. My mother has encouraged and inspired me to take up my hobby as seriously as I want to. She has never pulled me back. My mom taught me to never give up on dreams however far fetched it may seem initially.
