Kid Gets Int'l Acclaim

She became the youngest Indian fighter to have won a gold medal while braving to participate in the Koreans' category which many Indians do not try for fear of being victimized at the hands of the strong Koreans. Ishee Pardeshi of Vashi has done the country proud by becoming the youngest Indian fighter to have won a gold medal in taekwondo. The tiny fighter took to martial arts at the age of five and by seven she has now become the international gold medalist in the Koreans' segment, which is hardly taken by Indian players. ""She has become the youngest athlete to represent India and the first player to bag a gold medal in taekwondo poomsae (imaginary forms of defence and attack against multiple opponents) in the Korean Category. We are proud of her achievements at this age as an Indian,"" said her jubilant coach Abhishek Dubey. Ishee won the prestigious Ist Yeongcheon Open International Taekwondo Championship in the kid's category. The championship was held at Yeongcheon, South Korea which had support of the World Taekwondo Federation, the apex international taekwondo body affiliated to International Olympic Committee. Ishee created a record of sort by defeating five Korean opponents in her age group on her way to achieve this international recognition.  "I was the only foreigner in the Korean group while the remainders (29 fighters) were from the host nation-Korea. I demonstrated the moves and sequences with fine tune to win the debut exploits,"" said the wonder-kid Ishee, who has been training this combat art for over four hours at Vashi and Chembur on daily basis.  Her road to Korea was cleared through her impressive performance at Surat Nationals where she opened her national account with bagging gold a few weeks ago.Due to her exceptional feat the organizing committee of the international show bestowed upon her best athlete award of the championship.  She did not stop there after her maiden gold. She went onto win second yellow metal at the subsequent meet titled 4th World Taekwondo Expo held at Muju, South Korea. ""The second gold was an icing on cake,"" said Ishee. ""Ishee is a talented kid and has tremendous potential to become an Olympic medalist which India can boast on her shoulder. She has been an inspiration for every one who has had the privilege to witness her performance.  She will go a long way if the right kind of support and constant International exposure is provided. We are thankful to Vinayak Gaikwad, the treasurer of Taekwondo Federation of India and head of Mumbai Subarban Taekwondo Association and Subhash Patil who have been a great support to Ishee in her career,"" said Dubey.  Rajesh Pardeshi, Ishee's father says ""It's a proud moment not only for my daughter but also for the entire country to see our tri-colour flying high on the international arena.”Her parents opine that she has proved that if one works hard, the best results just become a formality. “She will surely emerge victorious at the World Championship if she sustains her training with the same vigour and technical expertise,"" says Dubey.
