10-Year-Old Comes Up With Lollipops

Alina Morse’s candy lollipops are made from healthy ingredients. They are delicious too. Slurp!

Q Tell us more about your candy lollies?
They are called Zollipops, the Clean Teeth Pops!  Zollipops are natural sugar-free lollipops that clean your teeth by working with your body to naturally raise the pH levels in your mouth.  After a meal or a sugary snack, our mouths become acidic. The acid can soften tooth enamel or give energy to those little monsters that can cause cavities. By raising the pH levels, teeth feel smooth and clean and they become stronger.

Q What do Zollipops contain?
They are vegetarian, gluten-free, milk-free, and are made with natural flavours and colours. I came up with the idea after visiting the bank with my dad one day when I was offered a lozenge. My dad told me that sugar was bad for you and your teeth. So I asked “Why can’t we make a lollipop that’s good for me?” And I researched and researched until Zollipops was created.

Q Why lollipops? Why not candies or lozenges?
I asked my friends what their favorite candy was. Many of them said lollipops. Hard candy like a lollipop stays in your mouth longer. So the ingredients have a longer time to kick in and work.

Q How did you come up with the brand name?
We needed a catchy name. I was working with my family on different names. One day I asked my little sister, Lola, if she would like to try a new lollipop, and she said she wanted “a Zollipop”. So there we had a name! We trademarked Zolli and Zollipops.  We believed that people of different ages would want different types of candy, so we created Zolli Drops for adults who did not want candies on sticks. Soon we will be adding more items to our brand for the upcoming holiday seasons.  In addition to the US, Zollipops are currently also selling in Canada, China and Korea.

Q What have you learned from your project?
To ask questions, try hard, believe in yourself and never give up! Things don’t always work the first time, so keeping at it. I have learned a lot about running a business.

Q What do you plan to do next?
My mission is to help people all over the world to have a germ-free mouth and a healthy smile. We propose to do this through our 250,000 smiles campaign in which we give 250,000 Zollipops to schools and dentists to support oral health education. We wish to continue the campaign through teachers, dentists, families, schools, trusted retailers and other organisations that support healthy living.
