Social Relationship For Healthy Heart

The famous Greek philosopher, ARISTOTLE remarked more than two thousand three hundred (2300) years ago "Man is a social animal. He who lives without socialisation is either a beast or God." Both man and society are closely interrelated, interconnected and interdependent. That is why Prof. Park is right when he opines "Man is not born human but has to be made human."

These healthy social relationships are very essential for the individual's good health. In fact people who have such satisfactory relationship with family, friends and community are happier, have lesser health issues and live longer. Many researches have shown that people who have satisfactory relationships with friends, family, and community are happier, have lesser health issues, and live longer.
So, in general healthy human relationship means healthy human body and healthy heart. We all know that the human heart is one of the most important organ in our body. The average human heart beats 72 beats per minute pumping about 2000 gallons of blood to every part of the body. This famous muscular blood pumping organ of our body, has gained popularity in books, poems, movies and songs and it's no coincidence that there is a connection between emotional love and the beating of the heart within your chest.

A study published by National Institute of Heart in 2010 showed that social relationships play an important role in behavioral, psycho-social and physiological health. The physiological health mentioned in the journal, & cardio- vascular health is heavily affected by the relationship in our lives. You could be a social butterfly with very many friends or you may have only a few close friends. Quality counts more than quantity. Regardless of the quantity of friends, you will recall one moment your friends have made you smile and laugh. Laughter may help to prevent one's diseases.

Studies from University of Maryland Medical Centre found that people with heart dieses were 40 % less likely to laugh than those who do not suffer from heart disease. When we laugh, our heart beats faster bringing bouts of cardiac exercise. A study published in Journal of Psychosomatic medicine (1990) investigated the effects of non-evaluative social interaction on the cardiovascular response. One study group was asked to do laboratory task alone and other group was allowed to have a friend with them. It was found that participants asked to complete a laboratory task alone exhibited significantly greater systolic blood pressure and heart rate reactivity than did those who were allowed to have a friend with them.
