The life and times of any mother purely inside of that role largely revolve around “the three commands” as I call them …. “Padh lo” [Please study]; “Kha lo” [Please eat]; and last but not at all the least “Naha lo” [Please take a bath]! ….. I often wonder how jobless we would be if we didn’t have the aforesaid three chores to do in any given day.

Sitting by myself, one day in an “Aha” moment! I found my inspiration in these 3 magical commands!!! And here I am ……

Amazingly kids hijack our very sub conscious existence wherever they are and whatever you may be upto….. Nothing just nothing stops the live streaming of thoughts about them good, bad, upset, fun, hysterical. It’s almost as if you are watching a live streaming of their lives …. Akin to Jim Carrey’s in The Truman Show!!

Sitting at my work desk trying to concentrate on what’s up for the day , sounds of my 17 year old trying out a new addition of chimes to his ever expanding drum set fall on my ears. It seems to be long forgotten that school was “bunked” today to prepare for the physics test coming up this Friday…..

Trepidation of stepping on to thin ice with a gentle reminder to the main reason for the “bunk” looms large over my head… questions whether bathing and breakfast are on the agenda are best left in the crevices they exist…. Lest they derail the main motive.

As I pen this down empathy towards the “mom tribe” descends and leaves me wondering what our lives would be without our 3 favourite rants…… with that I am shaken back to what I need to do for the day …. Until next time

- Shruti D Sodhi, mother of a 17-year-old son
