5 Reasons Why Parents Are BFFS

What happens when the parent-child relationship transforms into an amazing friendship

When we were all younger, we saw our parents as just that: parents. y were the first people we ever knew and were the ones to praise us when we did something good and punish us when we did something bad. Over the years, though, the parent-child relationship becomes more like a friendship. Here are eight reasons why your parents are actually your best friends:

1. They've seen you at your worst and still love you.

Your parents, above anyone else, have seen you at your literal worst. No one else changed your diaper when you were little, witnessed (and praised) your awkward stage, and were willing to go near you that time you were sick with the flu and couldn't leave your bed for a week. If they've seen you at those low points and still love you more than anything, they're definitely more than worthy of the best friend status.

2. They're always there to be your cheerleaders.

Your parents are the first ones to congratulate you when you ace a test and the first people you think to call when you have good news. They'll brag about you to all of their friends when they're proud of your accomplishments, giving you the real confidence boost that you can get from a best friend.

3. You call your parents all the time, just to update them on your life and find out what's going on in theirs.

Just like you Skype your best friend from home all the time, you can't wait to catch up with your parents during the week. Your parents are always happy to hear from you and the sound of their voices can't help but be comforting on a tough day.

4. You know you can call them any time of the day or night.

Even if it's 3 am and your call wakes your mom up, you know she'll put her exhaustion aside to help you out. Sure, she might groan when she answers the phone, but deep down inside she's more than happy to be your on-call therapist.

5. Even when you fight, you know you'll always make up.

We all have those few people who we used to think were our best friends for life, but some silly fight made it clear that these people weren't really worthy of best friend status. Your parents will never fall into that category, though. No matter how much you annoy each other or even if it seems like you're arguing every day, you know they'll always have your backs and you'd do anything for them.
