Six out of over 100 schools qualified for finale

The Sanskriti School, Bhukum won the Times of India NIE Fundamental Quiz 2019-20, which was held at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch on Friday, November 15, in association with ICAD School of Learning.
Over 100 schools from Pune participated in the annual quiz. St Mary's Boys School was the first runner-up while The Kalyani School emerged second runner-up.
Renowned quizmaster, Runal Dahiwade enthralled students with his wit, and questions from across a range of topics including general knowledge, science, social science, literature, music, films among others.
The grand finale of the quiz was conducted in five rounds. A preliminary round was held to
choose the six finalist teams, each comprising three participants.
Sanskriti School was the top scoring team to qualify for the grand finale. Vidya Valley School, St Mary's Girls School, St. Mary's Boys and Global India International School were among the other qualifying teams for the finals.
Round one was the buzzer round with St Mary's Boys opening the account with 10 points. With some smart answers and quick hits on the buzzer, Sanskriti and St Mary's Boys were tied with 20 points at the end of the first round. In the second and third rounds, St Mary's Boys lost lead but Sanskriti continued to dominate and maintain the lead.
A buzzer round was conducted for the grand finale and Sanskriti School scored 70 points all together, way ahead of the first runners-up. Maitreya Joshi (class IX), Gautam Kulkarni (class X) and Siddhant Kaul (class VIII) were the participants from Sanskriti School. The trio coordinated well to answer brilliantly. Gautam said, "We formed
the team just two to three days ago and we came here and won. We never thought we would win the quiz; it was a pleasant surprise."
The St Mary's Boys emerged as the clear first runner-up. But, there was a tie for the second runner-up position between The Kalyani School and Global India International School. A tie-breaker question was conducted and The Kalyani School bagged the second runner-up position. The six consolation prizes were won by the teams from The HDFC School, Jayawant Public School, Ryan International School, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar, Army Public School, Kirkee and Fr. Agnel’s Vidyankur School.
There were ample questions for the audiences too. Exclusive prizes for 10 merit holders from the preliminary round were also presented. Six other teams won consolation prizes. A lucky draw was conducted for parents, teachers and students and eight of them were awarded.
Between the quiz, fitness expert Bala
Krishna Reddy from SQUATS - an online platform for guidance on fitness and nutrition - conducted some demonstrations and fitness exercises and also gave tips on fitness. Fun activities were conducted for students and the best performers were awarded.
The prizes were presented by Sudhir Bajpai, the academic head and Piyush Jaiswal, the centre head of ICAD School of Learning, Pune. In his address to the students, Bajpai said, “Today, students need to focus more on their studies and turn away from materialistic things and digital distractions. One needs to strategise and commit to time-bound study in order to achieve his/her goal.”
