Canine Creches Are A Reality

Last year, when Nirmala Jaggi went on a Christmas vacation to Europe, she decided that her seven-year-old pet, Sayra (a Shih Tzu), would also take a break.

As Sayra was suffering from stress and diabetes for the last one year, Jaggi, a resident of South City I, approached a healer in Sector 56 for a five-day holistic therapy course for the pet. "After she turned six, Sayra suddenly started showing symptoms of stress. She did not eat properly, and was disinterested in playing. However, the five-day holistic healing session she underwent during the Christmas holidays in 2015 helped her recover. I was surprised to see an active Sayra after I came back from the vacation," recalls Jaggi. The experience also made her realise that pets also need to de-stress.
With the onset of the holiday-season, Jaggi is all set to enroll Sayra for a similar course this year too, while she will be enjoying her vacation abroad.

The Millennium City has around 10 dog creches, and according to some owners of the creches, requests for holistic healing therapies for pets usually shoot up during this time of the year. The cost ranges between Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 25,000 depending on the need and duration of the sessions.

Gabbar, a Labrador, also benefited from Reiki therapy after he met with a road accident around four months ago. "Gabbar had been suffering from trauma since the accident, and he became very passive. He was eating only once a day. We could see tears rolling down his face. His vet told us that he underwent trauma, which led to acute depression. It was so disheartening to see him in that condition. Somebody then suggested a holistic healer will help him recover from the trauma. The Reiki sessions helped him so much that we got our peppy and cheerful Gabbar back," said Rahul Dev, Gabbar's pet parent, who resides in DLF-4. He took him to a centre in Sector 56.

Dev now wants Gabbar to go through angel therapy session. "I am flying to Sri Lanka with family to celebrate Christmas and New Year. It is a good opportunity for Gabbar to relax and de-stress with help of holistic healing therapies," he said.

A city-based holistic healer and therapist, Kavita Choudhary, said, "Be it Reiki or angel therapy, all healing techniques help channelise the energy of the pets and handle their emotional needs. This helps them gain physical and emotional well-being. Such therapies can also be given from distance."
