Yoga For Students

In this hectic world, even young children are not spared from nerve wracking stress in their daily school life. The anxiety of a typical school day gives way to further angst in high school.Once in the university, a whole new degree of stress pops up. Students go through the challenge of realising their true potential in developing their personality and marking their identity. Becoming a butterfly from a caterpillar requires effort, only that with human beings, the effort is never free of trials.

In order to devise a mechanism for students to cope with these burdens, the focus should be on a learning system that takes care of their holistic development. This includes not only polishing their knowledge and skills, but also in moulding their personality and shaping their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

On the basis of these lines, one such learning platform was provided to students of Bennett University when yoga and spiritual scholar,Surakshit Goswami conducted a workshop on yoga and meditation at the university campus in Greater Noida in early December.

“Yoga is the only form of physical activity that not only heals you from the outside but also cures you from the inside and transforms you from mind to body,”the yoga gurus told students, staff and faculty. The yoga workshop by Surakshitji, focused on yogic techniques to relax, refresh and rejuvenate and to throw away accumulated stress and negative energies. The session took students on a mystical inward journey that aimed towards developing a healthy mind in a healthy body and helped them to learn about their true Self. In the session, he highlighted the benefits of yoga in solving day-to-day problems. He also educated them on the importance of nurturing themselves by channelising their spiritual energy for a healthy mind in a healthier body.

He showed them a few asanas that have eternal relevance in the hectic life that everyone seems to be leading today. The session stressed on the importance of slowing down and taking time out to breathe in this rat race of life, where wellbeing of the body and mind has taken second place after work and studies.

He encouraged students to proactively follow a fitness regime in order to be at peace and not succumb to the ever increasing stresses of life. The yogacharya reiterated that yoga is not just an option in today’s lifestyle but a must.
