It's Time To Invest In Wisdom

The ones living now need to contemplate whether they have availed this priceless opportunity… … … Man has to prove that he is truly wise, he has got the knowledge of Truth from the God-realized saints and seeks clarity and strength from them to imbibe this knowledge in his everyday life… … … Shweta Soni presents an abridged version of a holy discourse by Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj.

Across ages, all saints and prophets motivated man for one common cause. It was never materialistic pursuits but the very aim of every soul, to connect to the Almighty and attain salvation. But driven by an ignorant mind, it suffers in the cycle of birth and death. The mortal journey ends one fine day but that of the soul continues. The five elements merge back with their sources but what becomes of the sixth one i.e. the soul ?

For the countless humans who failed this chance uptil now, time is not going to play back for them. For the ones born in Satyuga, Treta or Dwapar, their “present time” was “then”.

For us, our “present” is these moments in which we are living, breathing and not the time to come. But the ones living now need to contemplate whether they have availed this priceless opportunity.

Recent earthquakes in Nepal and some parts of India revealed how fragile this corporal form is. In an instant, all future plans of the victims were put to an end forever. So, “present” is all that one has and has to be dealt with great care. The ones restricted to mere listening or narrations of scriptures are not going to succeed; they need to bring it into practice. Further, there are those specially the youngsters who are limited just to “eat, drink and be merry” or the vices, illusions of the world with no awareness of the mind or what is going to become of the soul hereafter. They need to be awakened more rigorously from the deep slumber of their misleading notions and aspirations. Saints have cautioned man, “don’t take this warning lightly”. When the message was given in Satyuga, the need for prophets or spiritual scriptures thereafter should not have been there. But such is the human nature that the message does not register easily and it has to be repeated time and again in novel ways.

Man has to prove that he is truly wise, he has got the knowledge of Truth from the God-realised saints and seeks clarity and strength from them to imbibe this knowledge in his everyday life. He too takes the mantle of passing this awareness to others just like others became inspiration for him. Before this transformation, he was not able to do so as he had not obtained the Truth. Just like Arjuna revered Lord Krishna in form but did not surrender to the real Krishna, the all-pervading omnipresent formless until he was blessed with God-knowledge by Lord Krishna. Even Meerabai’s devotion and love for

Shyam was limited to an idol until Guru Ravidas revealed the indestructible form of the Lord to her. Kabir Ji says - Lord Allah is invisible but Guru has blessed me with sweet Realisation.  All my anxiety has ended, I see the Supreme Lord everywhere”. The vastness and expanse of the Lord has to be seen to be believed. All religious scriptures underscore the fact that the Invisible God can be seen with the grace of an enlightened saint and this holds true for every human.

I recall I had to strain my neck to see the top of CN Tower in Toronto. But the same tower looked like a toy when seen from the airplane. So what seems to be big looks rather timid when seen from “greater heights”. Similarly, when one attains the spiritual heights by connecting with the Formless God and imbibing humanity, the materialistic achievements seem too tiny. The more humble, forgiving and large-hearted we become, the higher the greatness we achieve. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If our behaviour becomes so, then this indeed is greatness. Everyone has to attain this state of mind and become a reason for peace and happiness for self and others, thereby upholding humanity and spirituality in true sense.

- Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh Ji
