Daldykan river in Norilsk, Russia turned bright red on Tuesday. Photos of the river went viral online after stunned residents shared its pictures. The authorities are finding the reason behind this changed colour of the river. That there can be an environmental damage related to the cause is not being ruled out by the authorities. They suggest that the water may have turned red due to the discharge of some chemical from nearby Mettalurgical Plant that is owned by Narilsk Nickel, the world''s largest nickel producer. However, the company has denied all allegations and said the area will be monitored and tests be conducted. Being the northernmost city in Siberia, Norilsk is a resource-rich area with frigid temperatures that can fall below minus 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The area is near the world''s largest deposits of nickel, copper and palladium. As a result, it attracts the mining industry. It is known for its heavy pollution, which is often considered the worst in Russia.

It is really disappointing to see that we cannot even maintain our rivers to the extent of its physical appearance. It is really hazardous for the tribes dwelling in that area.
