Palaces In India You Need To See

Laxmi Vila Palace, Gujarat
Nearly four times the size of the Buckingham Palace, Gujarat’s Laxmi Vila Palace is the personification of grandeur. With Indo-Goth architecture, fused with Venetian mosaic floors and Belgian stained glass windows, The Laxmi Vila Palace is lined with old amours and bronze sculptures, adding a royal touch. Although it serves as the current residence of the royal family, the palace is also open to the public.

Amba Vilas Palace, Mysore
A blend of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput and Gothic architecture, Amba Vilas Palace or the Mysore Palace lies in the heart of Mysore. Originally built with wood, a fire resulted in the reconstruction of the palace.  A section of the palace is converted into a museum, which is open to the public

Jahangir Palace, Uttar Pradesh
What was once the residence of Akbar’s Rajput wives, the Jahangir Palace is a prime example of Hindu and Central Asian architecture.  Built within the Agra Fort, the palace is one of the earliest surviving structures built by Akbar during the Mughal reign.

Leh Palace, Leh
Modelled after the Potala Palace in Tibet, the Leh Palace was built in the 17th century. Although this dominant structure has been abandoned since 1846, the palace is open to the public and offers interesting insight into Leh’s architecture and art. However, the real treat is the view from the uppermost levels of the palace.
