Films With Maximum Car Wrecks

Ever wondered how many cars are wrecked during the filming of films that spin around car chases and crashes? Well, according to a report published in the Wall Street Journal, close to 230 cars were totalled by the film unit while filming the seventh installment of the Fast & The Furious Series. Just in case you think this is quite a lot and could be the maximum number of cars headed for the junkyard after a film shoot, read this list by that will give you a hint of flicks that have done equal damage to cars.

Transformers 3
Number of cars destroyed: 532
Michael Bay presents destruction in the most cinematic manner. Be it MIGs, tanks, trucks or cars, it seems the director of Transformers  loves to hate the cars. However, most of the cars that were used in Transformers 3 were flood damaged and headed to the scrap yard, and were donated to him by car makers.

Fast & Furious series
Number of cars destroyed: 1200+
On an average, 171 cars have been destroyed by each of the seven Fast films, and a car every minute of the screen time. While Fast 5 and Fast 6 totalled 260 and 400 cars respectively, director James Wan showed mercy to the cars while filming Fast 7 and restricted the number to 230.

Bullitt
Number of cars destroyed: 80
Watch it for the performance of the lead cast, some fine editing and obviously, the iconic Mustang chase, which is the high point of the film because of the way director Peter Yates has shot it, and also because Steve McQueen himself is driving the car.

Blues Brothers
Number of cars destroyed: 207
These figures may not look as insane as it should to an audience that has just watched Furious 7, but Blues Brother (1980) held the record for the most cars smashed until its own sequel in 2000 outnumbered it with one more car. The film features a brilliant car chase, watch it.

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra
Number of cars destroyed: 112
This film was so bad that it became embarrassing for people who liked it (and now watch it over and over again on the television) to recommend it to others, but that didn’t stop Joe from setting the record for the most cars destroyed during a movie. Now considering the make of the film, we are not sure if the financers were able to recover the cost of the wrecking so many cars.

A Good Day To Die Hard
Number of cars destroyed: 132
The only awe-inspiring thing about this John Moore directed film is that 132 cars were completely wrecked and 518 were damaged to shoot a chase sequence. Watch it if you have nothing else to do.

The Junkman
Number of cars destroyed: 150+
When this sequel of the Gone In Sixty Seconds (1974) released in 1982, it set the world record for the maximum number of cars destroyed while making a film, so if you like to watch automobile carnage, this is the film that you should watch next. The storyline spins around a man, the enormous money he has and the cars he likes to show off.
