Animation Films That Will Stay With You

You may disagree with us, but contrary to what people believe, animation is not just for kids. Some of the best animated movies were also aimed at grownups. Times NIE  lists a few such films that were as much loved by parents and grannies as by the lil ‘uns for whom they were made

1. Kung fu Panda (2008)

A clumsy panda bear becomes an unlikely kung fu hero when a treacherous enemy spreads chaos throughout the countryside. On the surface, Po may look like just another portly panda bear, but beneath his fur he bears the mark of the chosen one.

The USP: Kung Fu Panda is a favourite among one and all because it makes us believe that nothing is impossible. Even though it sends out a familiar message, the pleasing mix of humour, swift martial arts action, and colourful animation makes this movie an all-time winner! We are waiting for its sequel to release next year. Haven’t you already seen the trailer a thousand times?

2.Finding Nemo (2003)

This underwater adventure follows the comic and momentous journey of an overly protective clownfish named Marlin and his son Nemo who get separated in the Great Barrier Reef. Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from his ocean home and dumped into a fish tank in a dentist's office.

The USP: Breathtakingly beautiful, ‘Finding Nemo’ touches the right chord with both children and adults alike. It taught a generation of young adults to chirp out "Just keep swimming!" when times get rough.

3.Despicable Me (2010)

A man who delights in all things wicked, super villain Gru hatches a plan to steal the moon. Surrounded by an army of little yellow minions and his impenetrable arsenal of weapons and war machines, Gru gets ready to vanquish all who stand in his way. But nothing in his calculations and groundwork has prepared him for his greatest challenge: three adorable orphan girls who desire to make him their dad.

The USP: Apart from the adorably cute minions, where the film shines is in its core narrative, in which Gru starts to develop fatherly feelings for his surrogate daughters. Thoughtful, funny and well-crafted, ‘Despicable Me’ shows there’s good in all of us.

4.Frozen (2013)

It is undoubtedly the coolest comedy adventure ever to have hit the big screen. When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna, a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff on an epic journey to find Anna's sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell.

The USP: Beautifully animated, smartly written, ‘Frozen’ is a delightful watch for all. Everyone can identify with Elsa and interpret her in a unique way.

5.Ratatouille (2007)

It is the story of how Remy, a rat who dreams of becoming a chef, achieves his goal. Remy forms an unlikely partnership with Linguini, the garbage boy, at a Paris restaurant, who inadvertently discovers Remy's talents. They strike a deal, ultimately setting into motion a hilarious chain of events that turn the culinary world upside down.

The USP: Stunningly animated, Ratatouille is all about friendship, family and the hard choices one has to make in life.
