First accessory show held this year

This year witnessed the first-ever accessory display. Mine of Design by Sahai Ambar Pariddi, Valliyan by Nitya and Vasundhara made this accessories-dedicated walk a reality.

But why give accessories such importance? Sunil Sethi, president, Fashion Design Council of India said, “Accessories are an integral part of any ensemble. Keeping this in mind, we launched the accessory display which will bring out the prowess of alternate jewellery. This also opens the doors for debutant designers who are keen to experiment,” he said.

Acid attack survivor walked the ramp at New York Fashion Week

Reshma Qureshi has inspired many with her messages about acid attacks in India. In September, she impressed the audience by walking the ramp for designer Archana Kochchar in New York. Reshma said: “I am hoping that my participation in this runway will inspire hope and confidence in other acid attack survivors to lead a normal life.” This courageous act was undertaken to promote the ban on the sale of corrosive substances. Kochhar described the whole experience as surreal. “Beauty should not be affirmed by a certain height, colour or size,” she said.

Plus-sized models left an impression

Designer Shilpa Chavan from Little Shilpa played the role of a stylist for India’s first plus-sized fashion show. The collection was presented by  models who were called for an audition via a special  social media campaign. With Tanmay Bhat as the showstopper, this was a ‘walk to remember’. “It’s high time we got designer wear for plus sizes as well,” said Bhat at a post-event conference.

Transgender activist made a statement

Breaking stereotypes at the sixth edition of India Runway Week 2016 in India, transgender rights activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi walked the ramp for jewellery designer Akassh K Aggarwal along with actress Mandira Bedi.

With Bedi as the show-stopper for Aggarwal, the show launched the designer's new spring-summer

collection, The Coeur Collectives. "The collection comes with a social message of gender equality and sensitisation. It refers to the change of behaviour by raising awareness of gender equality concerns,” Aggarwal said in a statement.

3 nail trends to try now

BLOCK OF MATTE BLACK

In the age of everything matte, how could nails be left out? This winter, give your nails a Gothic overhaul with matte nail enamel in colours like rich wine, dark grey, purple, navy blue and black. Start with just a block of matte black in the centre of the nail, instead of going for an overall black.

NOT quite FRENCH

It’s the modified French manicure that swept the runway as a top trend. Mix the classic French manicure with colours as opposed to the traditional white tip. It can be cheery depending on the colours you pick. You can either choose shades from a bright palette or stick to dark frosty hues.

SPORTY CHIC GLAMOUR

Show support for your favourite team, country or game with this look. You can adorn your nails with various Olympic country flags, logos, and an airbrushed glitter, letting it fade gradually. This is an in-your-face manicure, so be careful about the message.
