Riya Mittal: Should Students Be Allowed To Drop Subjects They Dislike?

I think students face a lot of mental pressure nowadays. They should be allowed to study what they want to. A student can excel at something only if she/he likes it. Unless we love what we study, we will not have the urge to work at it or better ourselves. What do you think?

Your thoughts? Should students be allowed to drop subjects they don't like from class 5 onwards ? Please comment below...

I''m sorry but I disagree. For holistic development of child, I think it''s necessary for him to study all the subjects till the fundamental level. Even though the child is not proficient in that subject and isn''t interested in it but still he should study it till 10th class. So that he is well oriented with basics of each field(subject)

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

I completely disagree with you. Studying all the subjects provides a child with basic knowledge of everything which helps them to choose the subjects in Class 11th. It makes a child aware of all the angles of life. Also, I don''t think that a 5th grader is capable of deciding which subject to study and which to . This segregation is apt only for 11th graders as they get mature enough to choose the stream.

Aishwarya Iyer Deens Academy

Class 5 is too early, however, i think by 9th we become mature enough to decide our interests and strengths. By this time, we have a clear picture of which subjects we want to pursue in future, so I think, 9th onwards, we should be allowed to choose the subjects we want to continue studying. This will help us focus more on the subjects we are interested in and develop our knowledge in those fields.

Aishwarya Iyer Deens Academy

Generally speaking, most people dislike Hindi as a subject and think that most of the things we learn later on, say Avyay, is entirely useless to us in life, becuase we are sure we wont be applying in anywhere and that, isn''t our field of interest. When a subject, say Hindi, is forced until 10th, it becomes a burden and a hindrance for us while trying to expand knowledge in subjects of interests. The subject we might want to need not be Hindi, I am just taking Hindi as a general example.

ANWESHA DAS Delhi public school Kalyanpur

Not all of them want to take up the same professions. Then how can same emphasis be given to all the subjects? I think that students should be given the choice to pursue subjects of their choice.at an early stage but not at as early as 10 years of age. They should study the basics of everything till class 8 before concentrating on specific subjects.

Rohan Upadhyay Kennedy High The Global School - Bachupally

I completely disagree with this... instead i suggest that the student should be encouraged to learn the subject he can top in and with that he should also learn the other subjects.

priyanka singhal HILLWOOD ACADEMY(PREET VIHAR)

A class 5th student is not mature enough to decide his career option. At that point of time they are at an age of enjoyment and completely dislike studies , giving them an option to subjects will result in children preventing studies completely.

Ishika New era

A child should not be given this opportunity because when we call a person "a child" we refer to the mental level. A child can''t decide at an early age that what''s good for him/her.

Pragadeesh Rj Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

No.it''s not correct.students have to learn all the language. Then only they have the basic knowledge in all the things. though they face some pressure in now a days by learning many subjects, this is the time to face the problems of social. so students should lean all the language.

Kashish Goel Bal Bharati Public School

i think this is a good move. however, due to this decision, children now would not be able to choose languages such as french and german and i too fall in the category. the immense pressure of the new language that they have never studied and adopting a new language from its basic at such an important stage of studies is really difficult

Harshini.M ALWIN INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

My suggestion is to don''t give pressure on your disliked subjects. On the other hand, please don''t any subjects.Because of that even your life will be changed.Your solution is to,like the teachers, you would automatically turn to like the subject. In your future it''s your choice to decide it.BEST OF LUCK.Think carefully.

SHAKSHI SOMERVILLE SCHOOL (SR.)(NOIDA)

I think it will be a good move as children get pressurize with those subjects they don''t like. Not class 5 but class 8 would be perfect as at that time a child would get an idea about what his/her aims or dreams or career which he/she wants to pursue and will focus on it rather than wasting time on other subjects which he/she will not take.

SIMRAN BENDALE Sanskriti School, Pune

I totally disagree! Students are already given a chance to chose their subject in 9th...... The children are not matured enough to chose their topics at a lower age. Their choices will change.

Balaji S VANI VIDYALAYA S.S.S & JR. COLG

No, Our Constitution says that a child should receive education until he/she attains 14 years. Until 14 years, all children are enlightened with the fundamental knowledge about the roots of all fields. Students should not consider this as a burden while they should understand that these subjects teach them about everything surrounding themselves in their life. They should understand and learn these subjects with interest and then they could realize that they are a boon in their life.

S.G.Akshay VANI VIDYALAYA S.S.S & JR. COLG

I completely disagree with this. Every subject is important for basic general knowledge. Students should not consider this as a burden while they should understand that these subjects teach them about everything surrounding themselves in their life.

Annada Dash KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA -PANVEL

To be honest, never, students should not be allowed at all to subjects and a fifth grader is not capable for deciding this..

Megha Praveen PRESIDENCY SCHOOLHMT LAYOUT

I would disagree with this opinion. Studying all the subjects is essential for the student''s life as an adult. Every subject is important whether you like it or not

Bharathi Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

I think it''s good for students

Asmita D.A.V Public School, Thane

They should not the subjects they dislike but instead they should learn to like them.

Mehek Sayyed Padua High School , Mankhurd

I think i should support you partly.Because as i know learning all subject''s may provide you knowledge for your betterment of carer. And if they would allow to thier dislike subject''s they would get half knowledge which can spoil thier carer.

good but not satisfied

I think Class 5 is a bit too early.. There''s a huge possibility that the interest of the student changes in the coming years. Subjects should be chosen by Class 11 as the student gets mature enough to take their own decision and they have a clear idea what to do with their life

Achintya Sharma The Global Edge School,Madhapur

Letting students their least favourite subjects is a bad move . These studies always help in future and ping them will cause them to have a ruined future . Instead of leading a normal or good family , they would have to work for other people as servants , maids , cooks , etc . So even though they hate their subjects , they have to study it no matter what .

Yes, students should be allowed to subjects that they do not like as a child cannot be burdened to study all the subjects and it is upon the child what he/she wants to take in future.

GARV MITTAL ST. COLUMBAS

I think this is wrong.A child must study every thing so that it helps him later in life.
