Purnima: Do We Respect Only The Pretty, And Rich?

Someone on Quora asked, what is more important — money or respect. A guy called Edward said, Money can't buy you happiness, but food, housing and healthcare don't pay for themselves. You can't live on respect. Money is more important at a foundational level. That said, I would not sacrifice respect to gain excessive amounts of money." But I wonder if we all actually practice this. As far as my understanding and experience goes, only people who have money and dress well are respected. What will happen to the society if this continues?

Dont treat anyone like that,i.e All are equal before law.

Khushi Pandit VIDYA NIKETAN

There are many people in the world who respect only the pretty and rich because they think that the people who are not rich do not deserve respect .But it is wrong ,don''t treat anyone like that. All are equal before the law.

Aishwarya Iyer Deens Academy

No I don''t. Itsn not only abou the law, it is about the though process of oneself. I respect people solely based on merit and character, looks and money do not make difference to me.

Nishi Upadhyay BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

that''s true . we tend to respect people who are rich and powerful.

Abhi Dabas Bal Bharati Public School Pitampura

we all should accept it ,its true.

Ritvik Baweja BAL BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (PITAM PUR

Hmm nice thoughts Purnima.

Yashita Nagpal BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Some may not agree but we all fall into this category of worshipping the poweful and rich. It may not be our choise but sometimes it becomes the only option left.

J.PRIYADHARSHINI REVOOR PADMANABHA MATRIC.HR.SEC.SCHOOL

IT''S TRUE AND IT SHOULD NOT CONTINUE IN OUR SOCIETY,AND THER SHOULD BE A DIFFERENCE DEFINETLY.

Sagnik Debnath Cambridge Public School-HSR Layout

Unfortunately, today''s society focuses on people with beauty and wealth. Why are the people who cannot afford to be rich given minor importance?

V.Ananya D.A.V. Public School

Human psychology is such that they respect those who respect themselves . It just happens that most rich do respect themselves.

S.VIDHYAALAKSHMI SHREE NIKETAN MAT -

We respect rich because they can do something for us . Man always likes gifts that too expensive ones but not true love only poor can give.

Shahnaz Warsi Unity College

This is quite true in today''s society. Only rich people get respect and the poor are ignored and disrespected. If look around we''ll find many examples. The political leaders, the rich business man all get respect but common man has to go through insults from everywhere. The situation is worse for the not-so-beautiful person. In our society, there exists prejudices even today, which is very sad part of our society

Jessica Kabuli CARMEL CONVENT SCH SEC 9 CHD

This is human nature. We often tend to respect someone who is our ideal or who is better than us manifold times. And this isn''t wrong because they are successful if they have money and power.

RIYA MITTAL Convent of Jesus and Mary

It is a stereotype in our society that only people which appear to have something are liked.Others are treated like under dogs.

Emima Thangapandi PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

Yes this happening still. We say all are equal ,but we don''t treat the poor and rich equally.

Pragya RUKMINI DEVI PUB. SCHOOL(PITAMPURA)

No, we dont treat them equally but we should do so. Many people only respect the rich and the powerful.

Mythili Iyer Greenwood High

We actually respect both. People work for the rich, so that they get money in return. When they work for the poor, they get no money back, so they do not work for the poor. But in return we get a greater gift than money, happiness. As for beauty people only respect them to woo them.

Brenda Marshal PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

According to me respect is the most important thing..

Brenda Marshal PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

There should be an equality between the poor and the rich. Getting equal treatment is a human right.

Medini Sundarrajan Deens Academy

I always treat everyone equal. In fact, I don''t even bother to find out if they are rich or not. I do consider appearance, but not so much. However, it is true that poor people don''t get enough respect in this world, since they are judged by other people who feel that money is everything. This is very wrong and we must change this.

Afsha Saiyed PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

Yes ,it''s true .There are so many people around us who only respect the rich people and according to them poor people are not fit to be given respect.

Saaem Shaikh PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

Nice One Purnima....

ahaan vaidya nalanda public school

Its unfortunate for not only me bt every person in the world to say YES to this issue

Swaleha Ansari Padua High School , Mankhurd

I think respect is the main thing because we can also earn money after losing it but when respect lose it can''t be earn by anything not even from money.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

What you have said reflects the ground reality of todays'' cut-throat mindset of the world.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

In fact, the mistreatment described is even present in history. Take Mulla Nasruddin''s example, where his old and informal wear was undermined.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

In continuation of Mulla Nasruddin''s story, he was only recognized and invited to a dinner table when he had fine-looking and uncomfortable yet posh clothes on.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

Also, people tend to favour the rich, because it is money that yields access to material, and materialism is what man is increasingly moving towards, unfortunately.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

In conclusion though, I concur with you all.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

We must treat everyone equally, regardless not only of financial status or looks, but also ethnic and socio-cultural backgrounds, physical conditions, sex etc.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

Bear this one thing in mind - Equality is the key to prosperity.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

And equality is the key to equitty.

Bhavya Shah Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

And lastly, equality enables productivity.

ABHIGYAN SINGH Harmony International School , Kharghar

Many of us respect rich people but we should treat all rich and poor people equally .

Safraz Muzamil Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

nope we should give respect to all the living things in this world even the animals too we should not see the richness and pretty if a person seen like that he is selfish.......

Mansi Kohli JASPAL KAUR PUBLIC SCHOOL(SHALIMAR

Very well written, keep it up

komal KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA (SR.)(AGCR ENCL)

No, we should not respect PRETTY AND RICH peoples only. We should respect everyone. It doesn''t matter their are prettyand rich or ugly and poor.

Sachika Lala BGS National Public School

Yes, many people, at the first look itself, start judging a person by their looks and how rich they are. But even when rich people get to know the less privileged ones, they start regretting their previous decision. It is always important to know a person completely before we start judging them.

nishtha gandhi TAGORE INTL. EAST OF KAILASH T0810D

People respect those who are beautiful, rich and have power. They leave the fact that everyone is equal before law

Akshita Gairola ITI CENTRAL SCHOOL DOORVANINAGAR

We live in a society where being beautiful earns you respect, but is it fair? I DON''T THINK SO. Every person in this world is created in his own special way. They all are beautiful in their own ways. And if this continues in our society then it will be difficult for us to be ourselves. It will be better if we stop living in the beauty dominated world and start living in the real world where humanity and attitude comes first and the rest comes later.

Akshita Gairola ITI CENTRAL SCHOOL DOORVANINAGAR

People let''s make EQUALITY our mantra and karma as well.

BHUVANA.V Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

This is the real scenario going on in our society, But always we must remember that appearances are deceptive.

Akshita Pandey LILAVATI BAI PODAR (A)-SCRUZ

We should respect everyone whether they are small, big or anyone. We should treat everybody in our society as equal.
