P S Geethanjali: Do Parents Favour Youngest Child

A study, published in 2011, of 1,803 mums and dads reported that on average the younger child receives a more favourable response than their elder sibling on 59 per cent of occasions. I recently read this research and I couldn't agree more.  Being the older one, even I feel that the younger one have an advantage. Be it in studies or being pampered by the parents, they are always better placed. What do you feel about that?

i dont think that parents are favouring youngest child . in my opinion the elder one is lucky as they get more affection than the younger ones

Asmita D.A.V Public School, Thane

I think that depends more on parents.

RIYA MITTAL Convent of Jesus and Mary

I''m sorry but I completely disagree with you .Parents never favour anyone. For them, both the children are equal.

Safina Khatri Canossa High School, Mahim

In this case I think I am very lucky. My sister and I are always treated fairly in my family. She gets as much love and affection as I get and I get as much care and compassion as she gets. So it seems that i am very lucky in the matter of parents:):):)...!!!

Depends

Vaishnavi Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan SVV Tirupati

I don''t think so. I am the eldest child in my family and I have never felt that my younger sibling had an advantage.

Mansi Kohli JASPAL KAUR PUBLIC SCHOOL(SHALIMAR

I disagree with this .Parents never favour anyone. For them, both the children are equal. In mine case, me and my sister, both are getting same care and love

Afsha Saiyed PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

I don''t think so that parents favour the younger child because me and my twin and my younger brother are treated equally by my parents .

Annada Dash KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA -PANVEL

Sorry,I don''t think parents are favouring youngest child, for them, both the children are equal.

S.G.Akshay VANI VIDYALAYA S.S.S & JR. COLG

Certainely not, parents favour all their kids.

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

I don''t agree with this. I have an elder sister and I feel that she receives a more favourable response than me. At times, she is pampered more by many parents. They feel that she''s more responsible and mature. So, no objections against it😃!!!

Sudhanva.ms BALDWIN GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL

The actual fact is most of the siblings think that the other one is being given more importance but both of them are treated equally

Hiya Kilam global indian internatonal school

Parents equally love all their children, no matter in which situation. The only reason parents keep on scolding the elder ones at times is only because parents think that their younger one will do much better with three role models. This is a message to all the elder ones: never feel bad. You always have the advantage to motivate your sibling and become a second parent. What could be better?

Emima Thangapandi PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

I agree this.I have noticed it many times.Parents think that the elder one is big now, so they can do their work on their own and the younger one is too small so they give more pampering to them.

PAVITHARADEVY.I Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

I don''t think so. Parents won''t differentiate older and younger ones. In my opinion parents see both of them as their two eyes..

Haya Naved FATHER AGNEL SCHOOL(GAUTAM NAGAR)

It is not that the younger one is favoured because he is young but the elder one is not favoured because the parents find him or her more sensible than younger one. The elder siblings are more mature and thus can understand the situation better than the younger child and that is the reason that they are not favoured. I think this is the scenario.

ayushi AKSIPS 45,Smart School

i am youngest in my family....i cannot predict that my parents are biased or not...but i could surely say... that we are not that grown up to judge our parents love and affection!!! we should be happy that we have them)

SACHIDANANDA SAHU VANI VIDYALAYA S.S.S & JR. COLG

Really parents do favour their younger child more than elders.

Kamaldeep Singh SAUPINS SCHOOL SECTOR-70, MOHALI

no according to me there is no such thing as for parents both children are equal ....they don''t favour any of their children .......sorry i completely disagree with you!!!!

Akshita Pandey LILAVATI BAI PODAR (A)-SCRUZ

I do not agree with this as if parents have two children, both the children are important for them.
