Katyayani Singh: Men or Women — Who Has It Easier?

Men and women are different. They face different problems and different challenges. But who has it easier? Men have to provide for the family – this is the argument that anyone with an unprogressive and traditional mindset will raise. They say men have to bear the burden and responsibility of putting food on the table and providing for our clothes, while  women have the ‘privilege’ of borrowing clothes that men wear, as well as their own! But look at the other side. Even today, girls are discriminated against even before they are born. In India, female foeticide remains a horrifying social issue. The pressure of society leads to parents killing their unborn female child. Even if they are allowed to live, society ensures that life is difficult for them. Some girls aren’t even allowed to go to school as families prefer their sons to be educated. According to statistics, only 26 per cent of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) workers in the world are female as girls are rarely encouraged to take up these subjects at the school level. In today’s world, an increasing number of women are joining the workforce and contributing to society. But they are still expected to balance their work and take care of the kids, cook and clean. Why don’t we expect men to do their share of work? Despite doing so much, women are still underpaid. It is a known fact that women get paid less than men for the same work! Society expects women to behave in a certain way and they are also supposed to look ‘extraordinary’. They have to work much harder than men to prove themselves. They are still laughed at when they dream big. All this makes a woman’s life much more difficult than a man’s. Why don’t men in our society have the pressure to look great or meet stereotypical perceptions? Men face challenges too but sadly the challenges that women face far outweigh those.

Well the jobs of none of the gender could be considered as easy or difficult. It completed depends upon the individual that how he\she copes up with it. Moreover it also depends upon the circumstances and the surroundings. Supportive background makes everything easier while adverse conditions may convert a simpler task into a difficult one.

According to today''s changing scenario men are becoming responsible . Today we have men who encourage their wife''s to take up jobs and helps them in their house hold chores. We have many encouraging fathers who wants their daughters to take up a job before getting married . There are men who respect woman . Lets pray that these people be an inspiration for others . As far as i know men and women are paid equally for the same work.

Well both are at par. If for one day women and men interchange their chores then they can realise the daunting tasks!!!

I guess both men and women have to perform difficult jobs but it is the women for whom the Indian male-dominating society have made things really more difficult. Discrimination whether it''s regarding schooling or working outside etc. today is an old man-made monster that is still harming them. Female foeticide has made things more complicated for them. So, I think that it is the men for whom facing and accepting challenges is more easier as compared to the women.

It''s true women don''t have it easy at all...and I prefer to believe that this whole stereotypical perception about women is inherent in the society itself ... as long as the society ,it''s views and it''s expectations remain unchanged there is no stopping of these harassments and these struggles...

LIFE is not a cakewalk or in other words it can never be abate for anyone either men or women. Both have to face different challenges to survive. It entirely depends on an individual that how they deal with it.Both have various capabilities to showcase. Infact the world should have a mindset of ''FIRST COME,FIRST SERVED''.This will surely help men and specially women to combat the differences in society.

Women are slowly getting empowered, and are starting to do so things that a man does. The gap between men and women is slowly decreasing. The thin gap line that exists between them will disintegrate as time passes, and it''s up to us to speed up that process.

I think today the society is slowly putting more emphasis on gender equality. But it will take time without the support of all. If all understand the idea of gender equality, we may see an expansion in the women work force as well as boost in our other sectors. It is a person''s right to live. One must allow others to utilize their talents to their best.

it depends on the character and the willingness to do , not the gender - even stats cannot be generalized

I think no one is easier because we have different personality but we can do any think either he is a boy or girl it depends on us that what I want to do yet girls have some right some where they are not allow to do work any many things but still lots of girls do well in her life and they be a example for other one so both are best....

I strongly believe that men and women have their own responsibilities. Men find it difficult to do the work that females usually do and vice versa. However, no particular work should be considered as men''s or women''s work. Humans have very sharp brains. Anyone can do anything in this world. During the first World War, as many men were fighting, women had to do the work that was considered as men''s work. With hard work and practice, we can do anything.

According to me no one has it easier, and it is unfair to compare men and women. One cannot compare oranges to apples. Both the genders are unique and cannot and should not be compared. If women are expected to take care of children they are provided with maternity leaves, however we expect the men to work and take care of the child, this is unfair. Though I do agree that women are being suppressed by the society in a lot of ways, but you cannot uplift women by putting men below them.

Men and women are just alike. In olden days people had the mindset that men had to earn and women had to do the household chores. But nowadays it has changed to some extent. I''m sure in future this situation will change. All genders will be considered equally.

Darshil Shah ST. XAVIERS - LOYOLLA -2 LOYOLLA 2

I think women are getting more royalty nowadays. Due to the various programmes and slogans for women protection, women are now rapidly gaining attention from people. But there is no problem in that.

Sarath Kumar RM Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Well, at present situation women face more challenges than men. The woman going for a work has to manage both her family a well as her job. The only result that men should change their minds in helping the women by sharing their works which will not only reduces stress of women but also increases bonding in the family.
