Is our national game lacking importance?

As we all know hockey is the national game of our country, but somewhere in the lust of cricket , football and many other sports the importance of hockey and the position it had before has gone down. People remember the name of every cricket player but are unaware of the victories the indian hockey team has brought to us. As the youth of this developing country i think its our responsibilty to bring the hockey charm back . what is your take?

Yeah! You are right. This is something very bad about Indians. We are not giving importance to our national game.

I think if schools and colleges includes hockey and gives importance to it then there''ll definitely be changes.

No offence Arshia but I don''t think hockey is the national sport of India anymore. I have stated this before in another post.

There''s no doubt saying that Hockey has lost its charm to cricket, football and other sports. And we audience and the government need to be blamed for this downfall.Neither government gives importance to our "National Game Hockey" nor contributes to its betterment. So,definitely this has led to decline of interest of players in hockey.

I totally agree with Ayushi. Hockey is no longer considered as our national sport.

yes people even dont like to see hockey matches inspite of this they are busy in watching cricket matches and other.they dont know anything about hockey even i dont know ..as i have never made interest in it.but if we will start taking interest surely hockey would have importance.

Yes, it is. Cricket, at the moment, is very much overrated, when compared to hockey, which is totally underrated in the metropolitan cities. It is a very old game, but the emergence of new sports has just resulted in the negligence of this sport, which I believe is played in Coorg with lots of enjoyment.

Yeah, we are not giving importance to our national game hockey whereas we are giving more interest in cricket and other games . Its okay that we are interested in cricket but as our national game we have to showcase more hockey . We Indians should know more hockey .If schools have hockey as the main game there might be some changes.

it is quite unfair that our national sport hockey has not been given a lot of support which is quite unfortunate .The recent incident when India thrashed Pakistan 7-1 in the world hockey leauge nobody celebrated as they were brooding over our loss to Pakistan in the champions trophy .It is high time we start respecting our national game and give it due recognition

People know all the names of the players of cricket team, how many runs they scored, football players position, their team etc but its unfortunate that people are not aware of their national game. There should awareness about the game and schools should motivate students to play hockey.
