Debopriya: Why Do Parents Worry About Their Daughter’s Marriage?

We  consider terrorism to be the worst threat to mankind, but we also know that gender inequality is one of the worst problems we are facing. This issue has always been there. We tell our boys to fight and be aggressive. But we still tell our girls to be soft and submissive. If a boy is not successful in his life, he is made to think of some work which may give him profits. But in a girl’s case, she is made to think of marriage. Even in the 21st century most parents ar more worried about their daughter's marriage than anything else. If girls take part in boxing or wrestling, they are told such things are meant for boys. If a girl says she can’t cook, people are shocked and say that no one will marry her. Should a girl learn to cook just for the sake of a better groom? In ancient Amazon society, girls were trained to become warriors and were sent away, while the boys would stay at home and do the housework. How nice it would be if this situation would exist today? The bitter truth is that it’s still a man's world. It is high time that gender inequality is addressed at a global platform the way terrorism is.

Yes, it''s true. In our country there is rule that every girl will do household chores and man will earn money for family. But there should be no rule relating to gender. Not opposite of this tat man will do household chores and girl will earn money for family. But there will be no rule for this. If a girl like household chores or earning money of boxing she can do. And boy can also do whatever he like.

malavika NEW GREEN FIELD SCHOOL(KALKAJI_ALAK

there should be no rules relating tasks given to male and female. both genders will have to accept it and share the chores whether household or manual .

BHUVANA.V Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

Exactly,it is true. Even in this 21st century it is a pity to know tan gender inequality still prevails in our society. Girls are not given equal rights even today. Both are equally talented. But why this situation still prevails??

Brenda Marshal PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

Yes. Hmm

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

The Indian society is a Patriarchy. Though we talk so much about gender-equality, but still we are lagging behind in this parameter. Well, in India, men are born with the right to bring the dinner to the table through money and women are born with the right to serve the dinner. That''s all. Why are we so orthodox? A nation''s progress can be determined by the way it treats its womenfolk.

S.VIDHYAALAKSHMI SHREE NIKETAN MAT -

That''s true .Each and every girl in this society face these problems in their daily life.

S.VIDHYAALAKSHMI SHREE NIKETAN MAT -

Come on girls let''s fight against this inequality

Mehek Sayyed Padua High School , Mankhurd

Excatly. We should allow girls to work and let them to live thier life by thier own. We should not use to put any boundries on them.In this 21st century girls are better proved than boys

Kavana Rao THE NEW CAMBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

GENDER SHOULD NOT MATTER the fact the both girls and boys should learn household work, both should learn to cook or any other work irrespective of the gender not because your a girl or boy but because it will make you more self reliant , more independent, every time the boys or the girls cannot have their parents or guardians around , they must learn to do their they work on their own . The main reason of this discrimination is the pampering of boys by their parents.

Vandana Subash City International School Wanowrie

I think the movie Ki and Ka represented this idea very beautifully that even girls should get a chance to go and work outside while the boys should try their hand in housework.Parents should maintain the equality of boys and girls from the childhood itself so that they don''t get such mindsets.

C.Prasanna Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

He ideas are nice to hear

yash sharma D.C.Model Sr.Sec. School

yes , quite true. now girl is a boxer , pilot , engineer ,doctor. then how can someone say that girls are weaker than boys and are made to do household chores. really i feel very bad about this. so we should really work at our personnel level to make people aware about this problem.

Yes being a girl is turning to be a regretful life these days. Girls should be given equal rights as boys..............

Onkarpreet Bhavan Vidyalaya

I agree.

Onkarpreet Bhavan Vidyalaya

It''s time girls stand up against all these difficulties they have been facing.

Onkarpreet Bhavan Vidyalaya

It''s time all the orthodoxy breaks.

Onkarpreet Bhavan Vidyalaya

Only then will India advance in real sense.

C.Elakshme devi Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

because the girls re wasted by boys

Safina Khatri Canossa High School, Mahim

I feel that even after 70 years of independence, some of the girls are still treated like slaves. They are told that their place is only in the kitchen. Boys on the other hand are considered as the so called ''chirag'' of the family. This should not be the case in the 21st century. We should be open-minded and put a stop on gender inequality. Girls should be allowed to do whatever they want. No one should be discriminated against due to his/her gender.

Ishika New era

A daughter is considered to be a liability rather than asset.Indian psychology thinks that a girl is meant to do household works and a boy is considered to work as a businessman.A wrong thought i must say.but if we talk about giving freedom to all it must be ensured that "THAT PARTICULAR FREEDOM IS USED IN A GOOD MANNER".Girls may use it in a wrong way and choose a different path which i think is definitely too wrong. Think of a family who will allow a fish to dirty the sea. Thanks.

Yashita Nagpal BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Marriage of their daughters is of parents prime concern as they want their daughters life to be perfectly fine and that they never get a chance to regret their decision. Moreover if we talk about haousehold chores, some people do thing that it is the work of women but in other sense all agree to the fact that men can not take care of the house as a women does though, today our mindset in quite changed and we are becoming modern in real sense inequality is abolishing.

Bhavana Jaison Atomic Energy Central School No 2

"We tell our boys to fight and be aggressive. But we still tell our girls to be soft and submissive" this is not in practice, Nowadays girls are more educated and qualified than boys so there is no need for the parents to be worried . When you observe the society you will realize that most of the girls are independent . Regarding the household work , it should be shared by both .

V.Ananya D.A.V. Public School

Yes. It the duty of every parent to inculcate gender equality among their children and come out of their stereotypic ideologies .

chaitanya juneja NAGARJUNA VIDYANIKETAN

it has been a tradition of celebrating girls marriage by parents with pop and show so to maintain this tradition and respect in society parents worry about their daughters marriage

Haya Naved FATHER AGNEL SCHOOL(GAUTAM NAGAR)

Our society is still patriarchal, it is a male dominant society.

Gopika S Nair Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

parents should consider both their children as a claw hammer.... both should be given equal rights......they have to be worried about their childs future...but they dont have the rights to choose their childs rest of the lifetime

Gopika S Nair Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

the child have the rights to choose his or her life partner... parents are not supposed to interfere in their childs life....

parents can just tell their decisions.....but it wouldnt be good that they force their children to marry the ones they like...and completely hated by their children......

I agree with this. Being a girl myself, I am also experiencing some reality of this article.

Jessica Kabuli CARMEL CONVENT SCH SEC 9 CHD

I concur to the above. Gender inequality does exist in the world. We not only need to tell girl to fight for her rights but, also need to tell boys to share equal rights.

Bharathi Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

Yes idea is good but people want to execute this

J.PRIYADHARSHINI REVOOR PADMANABHA MATRIC.HR.SEC.SCHOOL

its absolutely true in our society ,and that amazon society is awesome but if we say it in our society they won''t agree with these type of systems they still being in their ancient period they still don''t want girls to brave they don''t want girls to speak out loud but there are yet few people who agree with these kind of things and feel happy, others should also think in the same manner.

RIYA MITTAL Convent of Jesus and Mary

Obviously . Girls are not given enough opportunities to prove themselves. There are girls who like sports and are aggressive and there are boys who like dressing up .Then why are girls always stereotyped?

Afsha Saiyed PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

All these thoughts that girls should marry earlier than boys or A women should have meal after her husband or women should only do house hold works are still roaming in the minds of people .l think only the next generation can remove all these thoughts from the minds of the people. We study that we have a freedom to move anywhere in the country but can girls go out of house after 9:30 pm ? Are they safe? No.

Animikha Dutta Dhar Mahadevi Birla World Academy

We shouldn''t decide tasks for genders . In India people have the liberty to think and do what they want to be their jobs.

ANWESHA DAS Delhi public school Kalyanpur

People have failed to understand the actual importance of life. The most important thing in life is freedom.Freedom from the societies taunts, freedom to do whatever one finds interest in. Girls should be let to choose whatever profession they wish rather than abiding by the baseless stereotypes.
