My School Project: Hovercraft

Surya Kar, class XI student of Techno India Group Public School, Garia

What it is?

  • It is about simplifying security concerns that deal with checking of explosives in all kinds of automobiles including cars, trucks and even trains.
  • It aims at detection of explosives in huge buses and long trains without undertaking any kind of risks.
  • Making the equipment cheaper than any other kinds of equipment used by the police or Army was one of the major objective of the project.

Salient features

  • The most important feature is the camera and the lights, which will help us to search any place very easily.
  • Although it can multitask, it is very light. Thus it is very easy to carry, making it extremely convenient to be used anywhere and at any time.
  • Since it is cheap, it can be a commercially viable and successful model.
  • It can be used even on small and congested roads and stations where checking is often not done frequently.
  • It is easy to make, thereby cost of production is not high.
  • Cost of maintenance is also not very high
  • You don’t need to be a science geek to operate it. It is very easy to operate.

More facts

  • The hovercraft runs on solar charged batteries which makes it eco-friendly.
  • It has a camera along with some LED lights for which we can see a clear lighted image of any part of any automobile.
  • It runs swiftly on both land and water, due to which it can help in rescue missions in flood prone areas.

How I went about it

  • We wanted to make something unique and innovative and it took us some time to plan.
  • A couple of things were running through my mind like I wanted to make it cheap and easy to handle.
  • I also wanted to make something that will run on both land and water.
  • The hovercraft came to my mind and accordingly I named it ‘Eagle Eye’.

What we can learn...

  • It is extremely important to keep in mind that checking of automobiles is very important today when blasts are so common.
  • The application of science is not very difficult if you have your concepts clear.
  • The project has made me aware about the hard work that goes in the making of machines.

"It was a great learning experience for me to try and innovate security system. Projects like these give us a break from regular periods and study and also help us to learn more"
Surya Kar

"It was an innovative and smart idea, although it could have been better if it would have been wireless. However, I’ll still give the students credit for thinking something out-of-the-box and making something unique"
Amit Acharya, teacher
