Vidhu On Growth Of Indian Football

The team, which was once considered one of the best teams in Asia, is now ranked 96th in the latest FIFA rankings. Football has always been over shadowed by other sports in India. Most People follow European football and hardly anyone know that India also has a league system similar to European countries.

But ISL has definitely changed the demographic of Indian football. More and more young talent is emerging in our country. India is also hosting the FIFA Under-17 World cup in October this year. This will also help to draw international attention on Indian football. Another achievement of Indian football last year was that Indian national team goalkeeper Gupreet Singh Sadnhu who plays for Norwegian Tippeligaen club Stabæk became the first ever Indian to play a competitive match for the first team of a top-division European club.

Football has never got the platform it deserved in India. But with these small steps India has started its journey towards development in Football. The Journey may be long and full of implications but one day India will be a known entity in football.

Yes I do. We know Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Pele. All are great footballers. One thing common- none of them is an Indian footballer. People in our country do like football and in every third lane, one will find children dribbling the ball instead of smashing it with a wooden bat. I particularly feel cricket has been dominating sports in India since ages. It''s time other sports gained some popularity as well.

Football always attracted me because I feel it is tough to become a football player. Many children play football with their friends as they play cricket. I feel children are not given proper training. If they are given good training they will reach great heights. I''m happy to know that India is stepping towards the development of football.

Football needs to be promoted in India, as a majority of the people seem crazy about cricket only.

as you know we have jumped from the 175th spot to 96 and then to 97 and this is all because of of the football fans and the dedication of the Indian players such as Sunil Chhetri,Sandesh jhingan and Jeje. Sandesh who is known as the wall for the team and the keeper gurpreet singh sandhu is an international player who is currently playing for a Norway club (Stabæk Fotball)and he is voted as the best gk in the team and if u dont know that u-17 cup is going to be held in India
