Jomilin: We Are Slaves To Different Forms Of Addiction

What is addiction? We may all not know the exact meaning of it but somewhere or the other we are all slaves of various forms of it. A dictionary describes the term ‘addiction’ as ‘dependent on a substance’ or ‘devoted to an activity’. Well, according to me addiction happens when we are over obsessed about a thing.

In today’s tech - savvy environment addiction has become a threat but rather an attack for sure. Kids of just a year or two are addicted to smart phones and other gizmos. It was just a few days back when I found one of my friend’s younger brother getting aggressive not to have food if he is not provided with the phone.

Such kind of attitude needs to be stopped at the earliest otherwise it can create a big chaos in the future. When I have to talk about the youngsters or simply the ‘addicts’ of this generation, I would like to disclose some major issues and effects related to them. Using Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat is not a crime but overusing it to a greater extent or simply misusing it to promote immorality can make you addicted to it. There are guys in the social media who behaves in such a manner as if they are craving for the attention of the girls and send lewd messages and video clips to prove themselves a bit ‘smarter’ in front of the girls. But such person fails to prove themselves ‘cool’ in front of others.

Another form of addiction which I observed is the rising interest of the youths towards smoking, alcohol consumption etc. It dulls the mind and lulls the senses and the addict is lost to the world in all senses of the term. In the short run it may be a solution to your stress and hectic life but in the long run it basically kills you bit by bit. I am not against anyone’s personal interests or habits but consumption of all this can be reduced to a greater extent if you want your life span increased. Misunderstandings and broken relationships arises due to our frenzied need to communicate via SMS. You may all have experienced that the thoughts which we would like to express in a hilarious form sometimes doesn’t appear like the same to the other person to whom we are conveying it to. There are a lot of emotions, feelings connected with the number of text messages which only you can perfectly understand, not the other. Rather if you directly go and meet the person, spend some time with him/her can help to avoid a lot of misunderstandings. Since, feelings or emotions are something which can even be conveyed easily through an eye contact or facial expressions rather than those hundreds of words put together.

Well, my point is that let’s bring a change to all this. There are a millions of things in this real world to explore. Let’s come out these virtually true things which mess you up day by day. Let’s do something creative and innovative. We should take a stand cut from the root or let it grow. If we don’t take a stand then fate will. Remember, Shakespeare’s illuminating words,"These violent delights have violent ends too".
