Haya Naved: Don’t Be A Cynic

There is always a speech or a talk that inspires everyone at least once in a lifetime. Something similar happened to me. I recently received an audio which was about a man who was out with his friend and a beggar came asking for money. The man immediately gave some money to the beggar. His friend told him that most of the people begging for money are fake with sob stories meant to fleece people. The man then narrated an incident to his friend. Once he was standing at a traffic signal where a man was frantically running around, asking people for money so that he could take his sick son to the hospital. The people on the road and this man, too, ignored him. Few hours later when this man returned, he saw that the same beggar was running here and there, but this time he was begging for money for his child’s funeral. The poor child had died. This incident shook the man badly and since then he has never refused to give money to anyone who needed it. This is something which is very common in our society. We always think that people begging for money on the road are fakes, but that is not always the case. I agree there are many who do fake it, but there are also some who genuinely need the money. We should not refuse to give money to beggars even if they are faking it because it is their destiny, and it is our destiny which made us fortunate enough to  be  able to give. This is one of the best ways to show your gratitude to God for making us worthy enough to help those who are in dire need.

I don''t agree. If the beggars work and earn their own hard earned money, there is nothing wrong with that. No job is too small for anyone.

I don''t agree with you Miss Haya. In this world, the manipulators are elbowing their ways to push the deserving towards the back without any remorse or guilt. And how can one distinguish if the beggar is fake or not?

I absolutely agree with both of you but I am trying to convey is that many a times we do not give money even to the ones who actually need it just because of the ones who fake it, making us believe that any one begging on the road is faking it. So give money thinking you are performing an act of generosity. The one who is faking it will ultimately be punished by God but think how many blessing you will get if you help someone who genuinely needed help. That is all I wanted to convey.
