Drishya: Let's Go Eco-Friendly This Diwali

This Diwali, lets burst our problems, not fire crackers. Yes, you know where I’m coming from at this point. The light of a diya should not only lighten the environment but also has to shed the darkness of insolvency and ignorance.

However, the question arises that how far we are able to understand that for our desires and entertainment, we are moving away from the fiesta of light? Diwali is one of those festivals which is slowly but surely standing as one of the pretexts for the pollution in India due to the carelessness and mindlessness of the people.

Celebrating Diwali and other festivals without causing harm to the environment is the direst need of the hour; if we don’t celebrate them in the eco-friendly way, then we won’t be alive to celebrate them in the years to come. Our ancestors did not leave the planet safe and clean for us on lease, they left it for us to protect it for future generations.

Keeping the crucial state of environment in mind, celebrations of Diwali needs a drastic change. Today, Diwali has become synonymous to pollution and emission of toxins into the atmosphere.

We need to change the way we celebrate Diwali. So, this Diwali let us promise that we will celebrate it without causing even a bit of pollution and save the environment not only for ourselves but also for the generations to come.

The Times of India Student edition, a customized student newspaper exclusively for the students, packs a powerful punch in terms of content that leads to a smarter and superior learning experience.
