‘Stay Cool And Stress-Free’

Soumanti Sinha, a student of The Heritage School secured 98.25 per cent in ISC 2014. The humanities student shares her study plan, success story and future in an interview...

Q Describe briefly the study plan you opted for while preparing for the boards? I did not follow any definite timetable or routine for studying. I studied throughout the year and that helped me immensely. When the exams were drawing close, that is approximately three months before the exams, I studied for six to seven hours every day without fail. I am an early riser, so I could utilize the morning hours for studying. I would go to be by 9.30 pm. About a month before the exams started, I stopped studying for long hours as I didn’t want to be stressed. I had almost finished my entire syllabus by then and devoted the time to revision.

Q Did you solve model question papers or question banks regularly? I did not take the help of model questions or question banks. I diligently followed and solved the question papers of the last 10 years. Apart from helping me understand the pattern of questions, it made me deal with time management. I got a clue about chapters that were more important and which ones were not so significant.

Q Did you expect to score such high marks?  Frankly speaking, I did not. I studied equally hard during my class X boards and scored 94 per cent then. After that, I kind of gave up expecting anything
specific.

Q How much help did you get from your school? I got immense support from my school teachers who would take extra classes to clear our doubts. They also provided us question papers of the last 10 years which are not easily available. I really want to thank all my teachers from the bottom of my heart and will always remember that without them I would not have been able to score such high marks.

Q How supportive was your family?  My family has definitely been one my pillar of strength. My parents were always positive and kept telling me that I would do well. I also got a lot of moral support from my sister, Soumili, who is in class IV now. She constantly egged me to trust in my abilities. That really spurred my confidence level.

Q How did you relax? how important are study breaks?  Taking breaks during studying is vital, as it not just helps you relax your mind, but also lets you get back to your studies with renewed vigour and enthusiasm. Since I love Rabindrasangeet (songs composed by Rabindranath Tagore), I would often sing a few stanzas or listen to some of the songs during my leisure time. That apart, I also read books by Tagore to revitalise my mind.
