Tiger Temple Of Thailand Shuts Down

The Wat pha luang ta bua yanasampanno aka as the tiger temple of Thailand situated in a small district of Thailand’s Kanchaburi was officially shut down earlier this year. The temple was one of the biggest tourist attraction where visitors- mostly foreign tourists- would touch, play and take pictures with the tigers. They could also feed the tigers with their own hands! Find it unbeilevable? Have a look at the video here:

In 2005; this The tiger temple had been accused of mistreating tigers by many wild life activists. Despite the strong claims, it was cleared of all accusations of mistreating any of its animals. However all that changed for good when in May 2016, the Thailand Wildlife Conservation Office (WCO) started to capture and remove the tigers from the temple with the intention of shutting it down.

In a recent raid, the authorities claimed that they found evidence against the temple, its staff members and the monks who lived in the vicinity of the temple. Officials found over 40 tiger cub remains which had been frozen and preserved along with other body parts from other animals. They also found 12 living hornbills which were seized as they were possessed without license.

More than thirty veterinarians, 60 park departement rangers and about 250 others were involved in this operation. The unfortunate news of the raid and findings of the tiger parts shocked many locals.

Students Speak

Do you think other temples where animals are sacrificed and/or tortured   should be shut permannently?

Absolutely. It is unbelievable that such temples were given permission in the first place. The government should take pro-active steps to make sure that such activities inside existing temples should be immediately banned and the culprtis be behind bars,

- Arpit Sengupta, Class V, Vishwa Bharati school, Noida

Yes. Such temples should be banned and practises like animal sacrifice should be discouraged. People who say sacrifice is an age-old tradition should be shown reason. This should not be encouraged at all.

Animals too have feelings like we human beings . We should respect and protect their freedom as they cannot express what they want from us through the medium of language.

I strongly feel that such temples should be shut down. Under the Right to Religion, it is strictly mentioned that no animal can be sacrificed for certain paranormal activities or supernatural ritual. How can we forget that they too have feelings?

moksh haria NEW HORIZON SCHOLARS-AIROLI

Yes,This type of temples should be shut down permanently as this can decrease the population of animals and can even lead to extinction

If the animals are preserved in the specific place .So that place should not be closed. If the place made as a hub of animal''s parts then the place should be banned

It is a suggestion that animals should not be used to provide entertainment to us. This ensures that the ecosystem is active and always there.
