Top Ways To Do Up Your Room

Everyone wants to come back to a relaxing, beautiful and bright set up to unwind for the day. Our students shares some interesting ideas to do up your bed room to make it a space that you would never like to leave! Here are a few handy tips by our young experts! Mind you, there is a dash of Nature to give your room an instant feel-good.

While you may not realise it, if you have been feeling tired, cranky, stressed or just not in a great mood, look to your home and its sources of natural light. It’s a proven fact that humans respond, act and feel better in a home that has plenty of natural light but also has light-inspired decor. Even for your darkest rooms there is a way to bring in lighter finishes to play off of the darker ones. Here are five effective ways-

  •  As students, your rooms are the only things that are truly yours. So strike a balance in the design. If you have dark walls, try to have light beds and mattresses, pillows and bed sheets to have a relaxing atmosphere.
  • Ensure that your room has a big window to allow ample sunlight to enter your room.
  • Always use LED light. They not only reduce the usage of electricity but also emit a rich light. Always try to use white light to brighten up small rooms.
  • Fairy lights are cheapest and one of the trendiest ways to decorate and also make your chirpy. Place the wires in a very natural way to create a home-y feeling.
  • You might be tempted to paint your wall with a rich, dark paint but save them for accent walls. Adding stencils is another way to incorporate those colours in your room without making it dull and gloomy.

Get into the habit of making your bed before you leave for the day. A messy bed can make a good-looking room look untidy. I make it a point to arrange my bed properly so that my room looks nice.  Put things back where they belong. It surely takes a lot of time to do it, but helps to keep the room neat and clean.

I suggest we keep our belongings in their requisite places. Painting it a hue brighter might cheer up your morning as well. Sometimes applying those room decor stickers on your ceiling may light up your dreams in the dark. Monsoon is the best season to try out new fancy synthetic curtains and bedspreads which will add colour to your room. Bring in the outdoors with real plants, which will be at their best in this season and add a dash of Nature to your room.

You can use dark light combinations of paints in your room as it gives peace of mind and body.It also makes you feel relaxed and enhances your concentration. You can design your own wall by drawing the things which you like such as birds chirping on a tree. Drawing of trees on the wall, bamboo utilities products, few plants such as money plants and nature specific curtains has made my room look brighter and natural! Being close to the the terrace garden makes it great place to study.

Heard that there is no one in the world who hates flowers! So one thing that you can do to keep your room bright and chirpy is you can decorate your room with colurful and fresh flowers. They refresh your morning and keep you rejuvenated. Pictures or the photos of famous personalities that you love can also make your room eye catchy. Try framing some well known quotations and sayings on your wall too.

The décor of the room reflects your personality and inner self. An easy and hassle free way to keep your room bright and chirpy is to follow a few tips:
  • Keep only that much furniture as is essential. A lot of furniture makes the room look congested and gaudy. It reduces the amount of free space in your room. A cheerful room is airy and light.
  • The colours in the room look better if they are in contrast. A room matched with white and yellow will radiate a homely and cosy feeling. Too many colours or the same type of colours will make the room look dull and uninteresting.

Rhea Mehta, class VIII, Pawar Public School, Bhandup, Mumbai

A few tips to keep room bright and nice..

  • Decorate it with chirpy and lively things like soft toys, vibrant pictures etc.
  • Personalise your room; if you're an artist decorate it with your artworks, if you're an avid reader adorn it with your favorite novels, or your favorite band's poster if you're a music lover.

- Anupriya Dubey, class 11, Delhi Public School, Jankipuram

Our personal room is our comfort zone where we retreat from the outside world and rejuvenate ourselves with more positivity. It’s like a bird returning to its nest after a long flight to rest before embarking on another journey the next day.

  • The room should have a casual feel such as display of books, inspirational quotes to motivate oneself but at the same time be tidy and clean.
  • It should be bright in colour and should have a feeling of space. It could have your achievements in display for regular encouragement.

My room is full of all my pictures and some with the people I love being around, my friends and family. These pictures distract me and take me back to the times when they were clicked. They highlight the room.

My room has a study table which is more empty than filled with decorative things .Yes,its good to have a empty table than decorative picture. Same with my room our rooms must not have way too much things that don''t have to deal with study or even relaxation . If your room is too bright its hard to focus on study and in either way if our room is too dark it difficult to survive. Our room should have limited and most valuable things so as to do with life. More=distraction, limited =focus.

Wonderful ideas! My room is light green, off white and blue. It looks cheery and I have lot of room to feel comfortable. My table is cute and nice. I also have 2 light bulbs, 1 with 20 watt and 1 with 40. So I am a happy person when I am in my cosy room. My computer table is also very spacious.
