Kingston HyperX Cloud Drone Headphones Review: The Good New Budget Headphones For Gamers

American computer peripheral company Kingston are known for their storage solutions, but their gaming headphones under the HyperX umbrella has gained prominence in the recent years. The newest addition to their HyperX line is the Cloud Drone headphones that are priced at Rs 3,999. Let's find out how the headphone performed on our test bench.

Build and design

The Kingston HyperX Cloud Drone headphones have a robust yet lighweight build that almost entirely consists of a plastic body except for the metal and plastic swivel microphone. The microphone does not have a mute switch, but swivels on top to turn on the mute mode and has noise cancellation as well. It is made of metallic hold-in-place material and has a rather large main unit.

The earcups of the Kingston HyperX Cloud Drone headphones are made of faux-leather that hug the ears tightly and let little ambient noise in. The over-the-head portion is cushioned to provide more comfort and support. The volume control is on the right ear cup in a swivel disc form that makes it rather easy to turn up or turn down the volume directly from the headphone.

The cable provided with the Kingston HyperX Cloud Drone is braided. This resists wear and tear. The 3.5 mm jack on the Kingston HyperX Cloud Drone is gold plated to provide better sound. The headphones also come with an extender and splitter that will help the user to easily connect the device to rear audio jacks on PCs. To be exact, the cable has a total length of 2m.

Performance

The Kingston HyperX Cloud Drone headphone has excellent mid-tones, but is not efficient with bass and the treble. However, considering that these are gaming headphones mids are what is important. We tested out the headphones playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive and found that the direction of the footsteps and gunshots were slightly indiscernible. Competitors like Razer with its Orca and Hammerhead pro (in-ear) have slight advantage.

The microphone has an effective noise cancellation that made the quality of the voice clear and distinct. This is an area where these headphones shine.

Verdict

For gamers who are looking for good pair of gaming headphones on a budget, the Kingston HyperX Cloud Drone prove to be a good option. The lightweight body would be effective in handling the stress of the shoulders and neck from long hours of gaming. Also, gamers frequently have to attend tournaments where they would require the extra long cable and the splitter with it. All in all, a nice pair of headphones in this price category.
