What Makes Harry Potter An Iconic Series

Spellbinding magic, motley group of curious characters, awesome settings... Is it any wonder that the story of an orphan 11-year old who lives with his not “very great” aunt and uncle has such a huge following? Being a Potter fan myself, I would like to add some reasons for the Pottermania.

1 ORIGIN: There is no doubt that Harry as an orphaned 11-year-old  winds instant sympathy. A boy who is orphaned by a sinister wizard, “The one who must not be named” tries to kill him as well but the affection of his mother Lilly serves as a protective shield against the dark spell. Later, Harry lives a pretty miserable life with his uncle, aunt and his cousin. Essentially, tragedy is always loved by the audience as compared to happy or comic stories.

2 JUSTICE DELAYED BUT NOT DENIED: The Harry Potter franchise is one of the much celebrated book series with most satisfying conclusions. At the end of the series which is a glimpse of the future that is 19 years later, the trio (Harry, Ron, Hermione) wave goodbye to their own kids on the same station of 9 ¾ where, only a few years ago, they had stood waiting for a train. After a long struggle of 8 years when the devil is gone there is finally a happy ending. It proves that justice may be delayed but not denied.

3 LORD VOLDEMORT’S DOWNFALL: “Is it the part in which the dark lord is supposed to die?” is a constant question which a reader asks when faced with a new sequel in the series. People are always eager to know when and how the dark lord get defeated. If the defeat doesn’t happen to be in the prequel, readers grab the sequel.

4 DESCRIPTION OF THE MAGIC WORLD: This is one of the main reasons why the Harry Potter series seems so amazing. Be it Doby the elf, the magical railway station, the talking pictures or the whole wizarding school - the description of the conjuring is awe-inspiring.

5 TURNS AND TWISTS: The turns and twists in every Harry Potter book is probably the main reason why it is an iconic series. Be it the revelation that Sirius Black is Harry’s godfather, Snape being involved with the dark lord’s army, the disclosure of Harry being a horcrux himself, the suspense has you under its spell.
