Comic Book: The Mask (1989-2000) 

Movies: The Mask (1994), The Son Of The Mask (2005), The Mask: Animated Series (1995-97)
The plot is about a magical mask which gives its wearer reality bending powers and bypasses the wearers’ psychological inhibitions. The movie was loosely based on a dark and violent comic book series. Neverthless, the film turned out to be a commercial success making Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz prominent stars. 

Comic Book: V for Vendetta (1988-89)

Long before the Guy Fawkes mask became a symbol  for of rebellion, it represented the graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd. The dystopian thriller is set in an alternate future with a corrupt and abusive totalitarian government in UK. V, an anarchist freedom fighter, embodies a revolution through terrorist acts. The movie and graphic novel made quite a cultural impact with ‘Anonymous’ (signature Fawkes masks) as their symbol. 

Comic Book: Ghost World (1993-97) 
 
 
Movies: Ghost World (2011)
The cult classic follows the day-to-day lives of Enid and Rebecca (Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson) as two cynical, social outcasts, witty teenage girls who have graduated from high school. Both the versions, of the book and the film, complement each other. The movie successfully brought out the root elements of the dark and acerbic series.

Comic Book: Road to Perdition (1998) 
 
Movie: Road to Perdition (2002)
The plot, set during The Great Depression, explores a complex father-son relationship. The father is working as hitman when his son witnesses a crime that his boss has committed. Torn between loyalty for his boss and protecting his son, the film features one of the last works of cinematographer Conrad L Hall who won several awards including the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for this one.  

Comic Book: Le Transperceneige (1982) 
 
Movie: Snowpiercer (2013)
The world has been destroyed by the new ice age and the last remnants of humanity are living on a special train encircling Earth endlessly. The graphic novel written by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette was published in 1982. The series was continued with ‘The Explorers’ (1999) and ‘The Crossing’ (2000). The movie adapted from the novel was in the must-watch films list of 2014. 

Comic Book: Persepolis (2000-03)
 
Movie: Persepolis (2007)
The autobiographical graphic novel and movie by Marjane Satrapi depicts her childhood up to her adolescent years during the Iranian Revolution. The movie was true to the book, entertaining, evocative and a visual treat. It was nominated for the Academy Awards for the Best Animated Feature but lost to ‘Ratatouille’. The film was the co-winner of the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
