Teachers at The Lexicon International School, Wagholi did just that at the TLISW Badminton League held exclusively for the staff of the school, a fantastic initiative taken by Pravin Ohol, physical education instructor of Junior College of the school and supported by principal Gursimran Kaur. The day began with the customary toss by the principal which set off the inaugurating match of the day. Teachers garbed in smart attires geared up to hit the court in overwhelming numbers with confidence.
As many as 53 matches was played in total, out of which the first round saw 20 matches played between teachers from the different sections right from pre-primary to junior college putting in their best efforts to prove their skills at the sport. The second round was held between those who won the first round with 16 matches, while the third round comprised eight games. The fourth round was the semi- final round with four matches, out of which the winners- Rajib Sanyal of junior college and Akshay More of secondary section directly made it to the finals. "It was heartening to see the teachers relive their youth as they swung the racquets and hit the cork trying their best to grab points," quipped Ripple Sharma, supervisor of Junior College, Lexicon, Wagholi. "Whether or not they won, their beaming countenances and their sportsman spirit were well reflected through the matches that they played."
No less charming were the cheer leaders, teachers who did not participate in the game but kept the fire of enthusiasm burning in the hearts of the players from the beginning till the end. "Sports entail an integral part of one's life, helping individuals develop not only their physical selves but also boosting up the psychological processes" remarked Gursimran Kaur, "And at Lexicon, we believe in bringing about the all-round development of teachers as well, who are looked up as ideals inspiring students to tread on the path of health and knowledge to attain bigger goals in life."
The final match was a gripping one played between the two strong contenders who gave each other a tough time with jaw-dropping smashes and subtle shots. Rajib Sanyal won the match and was awarded the much-coveted TLISW Badminton League winner's trophy, while Akshay More was conferred the first runner-up trophy. Junior College was declared the winning section with the highest number of winners. The winners along with the semi-finalists, who were no less in their adroitness, and the entire team of junior college were applauded and congratulated for the undaunted sportsmanship that they displayed.
