Debate, Spell Bee Marks Celebration Of Literature

Wynberg Allen School, Balahissar played host to the literary festival ‘Le Mot Juste’ which saw schools from various regions send their talented students to stake claim at the prizes. The festival saw various competitions bring out the best from every participant. However, the grand prize is what every school competed for and the students from St Joseph’s Academy came out with the most impressive results throughout to earn the title of overall winners at the festival.

Preeti Gill, an alumnus of the school and author graced the occasion as the guest of honour. She also doubled as a judge in some of the competitions along with Melanie Phillips Lobo, Vardan Sharma among others. The judges were in for an astounding experience as the participants from over 20 schools left no stone unturned in their efforts to earn points. This resulted in a healthy headache for the judges ahead of deciding upon the winners in different competitions.

The meet witnessed the prestigious TW Phillips Memorial English debate where Doon International School scored highest points, while St George’s College, Barlowganj finished runners-up. The speakers from Punjab Public School, Auckland School, and Tula’s International School received the honour of promising speakers.

Overall winner St Joseph’s scored a double by winning both Dr GD Lehmann Memorial English and HG Meakin Memorial Hindi debate competitions. The Lawrence School finished second in the English debate, while Welham Girls’ School stood runners-up in the Hindi debate.

Apart from the debates the meet also saw Rev Biggs Memorial spelling bee that was won by Summer Valley School. Other competitions included JH Clay and OB Craven Memorial storytelling and poetry writing competition.
